22 years after Harry Potter was first published, our obsession shows no signs of abating. But one mum has taken the love of the franchise to another level by creating an incredible Harry Potter-themed room for her son. Kelsey Michael, 23, an accounts assistant from Swindon, has an 11-week-old son called George and wanted to pass down the Harry Potter obsession onto him.

She used around £150 of Harry Potter accessories, such as notebooks, wands and prints, to turn the room into a scene straight out of Hogwarts. There’s even a Hogwarts uniform and a Dumbledore wall quote.

“I came up with the idea as I’ve always loved Harry Potter,” Kelsey told LatestDeals.co.uk. “I love everything about it and I would love my little boy to love it just as much as me. The stories are so magical and there’s nothing quite like it.

“I had this image in my head of how I wanted it to look, and I’m so happy it does. I’ve collected Harry Potter merchandise for a number of years now and I wanted to display it all, so I came up with the idea of using it all to decorate my boy’s nursery.”

Kelsey says she already had lots of Harry Potter goodies she’s been gifted items over the years as family and friends knew how much she loved the franchise.

She used products from Primark, Wayfair and Amazon, and also managed to collect most of the items on the shelves from a website called Geek Gear. The subscription service means you get a box of Harry Potter goodies every month.

Some of the items were made using Kelsey’s creativity: for example, she used an owl from Amazon in a Wayfair cage to create her son’s very own Hedwig, and she also used gold wrapping paper on an old lamp to give it a magical edge.

“Ever since I found out I was pregnant I knew I wanted to decorate my little boy’s nursery with all the Harry Potter merchandise I have collected over the years as I want him to love Harry Potter just as much as me,” Kelsey added.

“It was so fun putting it all together; I enjoyed every minute. We moved into our new house at the beginning of the year and it was all a blank canvas when we first moved in, so the process didn’t take too long.

“I started with the wall stickers, and all these ideas started coming into my head like having Hedwig in the cage hanging from the ceiling. I was lucky as it lots of the merchandise I had was gifted to me over birthdays and Christmas.

“I would say the Harry Potter things cost between £100 and £150, but the cot and drawers were around £600. So overall, I would say it cost around £700 to £750 for it all, but obviously you don’t need to spend that much on the furniture - we just fell in love with it.”

Tom Church, co-founder of money-saving community LatestDeals.co.uk, says: “Harry Potter is a timeless classic and we absolutely love Kelsey’s take on it: it’s a truly magical spot for her son George. Primark is a failsafe option for finding bargain Harry Potter-themed home accessories, but unfortunately they don’t sell online: if you don’t live near a store, though, don’t panic as you can snap up plenty of excellently-priced Primark items on eBay.”
