Would You Stay in This 'Faulty Towers' Style Hotel ?

Ask a Question

First impressions of the photos here i would say the owner was quite a character , and that would be an understatement

And from the outside the hotel looks really nice , and in a good spot

But inside is a different story

The photos in the article are not a true reflection of the state of the rooms, they were worse in the yahoo article, dirty sinks and towels strewn everywhere , but i am unable to post this as the links tend to disappear fairly quickly

Anyway the owner ended up in court for offences involving misleading commercial practices between June 2021 and March 2022 caused by complaints made by customers including the “musty” smells, “shabby, awful, and unclean” rooms, “stained” and “gruesome” bedding, security worries and rude and “unwelcoming” behaviour

He was jailed the year before for crude behaviour but managed a suspended sentence this time with a fine

Swearing at the customers was the norm here and the notice on the outside door 'women are not welcome' i am sure is breaking a law

He admits the swearing was only when he had had a few drinks , but says the cheap £40 a night stay makes up for the other negatives !

I think he makes Basil Fawlty look like a saint , and i would give this one a swerve

I am surprised this 'hotel' is still going. It has been in newspapers quite a few times over the last 10 or so years, so surely most people would know about it by now?

Clearly one to avoid at all costs. I wouldn't even pay 1p to stay in a place like that. Cleanliness is next to godliness and manners cost nothing.

Wouldn't bother me for a couple of nights if the price was low and I wanted cheap digs.I could match him for verbal if he got cheeky. Not entirely sure how he's got away with it for so long though.

I would rather sleep in a car than stay in such a hotel. I certainly wouldn't be paying to stay in such a situation. Why on earth didn't you just pick up your luggage, turn around and leave the moment you realised how unsuitable the accommodation was?

I wouldn't stay in a filthy hotel, if that picture is the shower, it looks disgusting, black mould 🤮

Sounds awful. I have stayed in a hotel where the toaster caught fire and a few other incidents that felt like fawlty towers though. We had to laugh about it and it was in Torquay! 🤣.

It looks like a lovely building from the outside and if sorted out inside would probably make a small fortune. It’s just awful the owner has such a negative attitude. Think he should sell up and let someone else make it into a fantastic hotel and by looking at some of the photos the sooner he does so the better

I can never understand people who choose to purposely go to somewhere like this or that Karen’s cafe. Everyone can spend their money how they like ofc but it makes no sense to me.
