Is £100k a Big Salary?

Ask a Question

Is £100k a big salary?

Jeremy Hunt is being called 'out of touch' for saying 100k 'doesn't go far after a mortgage' but average pay is actually only £35k.

Well Jeremy hunt would say that sat in his ivory tower being paid for by the tax payer, it just goes to show how out of touch with real life these politicians are

I think for his role £100k is a reasonable wage if he was doing a good job and that level of responsibility but to be honest based on the performance of the Conservatives a single penny would be too much for him.

BonzoBanana also only if they drop all of their other claims, second jobs/income/housing benefits, and stop getting free food and drink at every function.

Well says it all about that idiot doesn't it !!. He should never have been put in the role , totally out of touch with real people. He should try living on a normal wage that you have to work hard for

100k is a big salary. If you live somewhere expensive like London, then it doesn't go as far as it would elsewhere but it is still a big salary.

Yes, to anyone who earns less than 100k it is big and to someone like myself who has never earned more than 25k it is massive. (I do appreciate that some folk earn less than 25k)

I think this is every reason we need to vote these out of touch idiots out. How can they govern a country they appear to know nothing about

denofilThe Labour Party will be more out of touch than the present government running the country (down). Most MPs are millionaires or around that level of income. A complete waste of breath moaning about only £100k.

jam45 I must admit I've lived long enough to know nothing really changes with a change of government both parties are completely incompetent and not fit for purpose. They can't recognise the real problems in the economy and lack the skills to correct them. It definitely feels like we are heading for a change of government. Personally I'd like a hung parliament where they are forced to work together to drive policies through. I'd say some of the hung parliaments of Europe have been more successful than UK parliaments where one party has overall control. I see some people have high expectations of a Labour government, I give it 6 months once elected to realise they are equally as incompetent as the tories its just their level of incompetence will be in slightly different areas. Remember the expenses scandal. Both labour and liberal democrat have higher claims than the tories and the tories expenses claims were unbelievably high. Politicians are just utterly useless people typically. A waste of water and carbon. The only thing they do well is lie and spend other people's money.

BonzoBanana You really know your economics regarding the country. I have a cousin with a degree in economics and he always is using the same "vocal reasoning" (I think) as yourself. Thanking you for explaining yourself on various posts clearly.

He's probably on that much every month so £100k for the year is a big salary but may not be enough if you have a mortgage.

Even if your thinking about every penny before you spend keeping an eye on your expenses

It depends on where you live, he’s obviously pushing that North South divide out the window or his head. £1000k is not an average wage, but I bet he doesn’t push for Council Tax to be equal, all his posh pals paying far less than us all in the North, shame on them, Tories only look after their own, just my opinion!

There are many reasons why Jeremy Hunt has a rhyming nickname and this is just one of them. Scarily out of touch with reality but people keep voting for them !!!!! Don't trust ANY politicians, they're all in it for themselves !!!!

Shows exactly the problem, if he thinks £100k doesn’t go far then what does he expect most people on far less to do.

We need a fresh start for our politicians as no trust in Conservatives and the Labour Party

I think £100,000 is a huge salary for the likes of myself and I think I could speak for all of my friends too.

Depends what industry you’re in. I worked with someone who just finished her masters and was frustrated that she was on a 35k job just after graduating- said her friends in NYC were on 100k+ with the same qualifications

£100k is a massive salary if only my family had that sort of income

CherylOshea23 It is a big salary although tax obviously is at a higher rate so they take home pay after tax and national insurance would be about 2/3rds of that. However again the expenses is where their salaries get excessive because they claim for so much stuff normal people can't claim for and have huge pensions too. As hopefully many tories will find out this year they don't have job security though.
