Essentially, 4th of July is the holiday Americans celebrate when America got independence from Britain. They usually throw in some fireworks, grilled meat and the likes to enjoy the day but that isn't what it is about, though.

The term 'American' is a bit loosely defined nowadays. According to a new report released in 2012 on The Independent website, the first settlers in American soil were Europeans although the native population of the Americas are the Native Indians (not to be confused with Indians). Hence Native Indians hold the special label 'Native Americans'.
European-Americans or just normally called Americans make the majority of the country's population.
To answer your question, I'm not American though I kind of wish I was so I wouldn't have to bother getting citizenship for America.
P.S. While Trump is a two-faced politician (like pretty much all) I still hope he goes through and builds the wall to keep illegals out of his country. European countries under the regime of the EU don't have a say and if they want to do something similar, they need to leave which would be for the best but that's another discussion for another time.
