What 5 Things Would You Take to a Deserted Island?
Ask a Question
If you were to be on a deserted island and be stuck there what 5 things would you take with you? It has to be things and not people.
5 Things for me would be;
1) Tent.
2) Bottle that can purify any liquid into water.
3) Knife probs a Swiss one. Would be very handy.
4) A big Blanket.
5) First Aid kit.
I would probably take: a medical kit, a boat for eventual escape, a mobile phone, a sharp knife and something to make the water drinkable.
Doubt you would get any reception on mobile phone and definitely nowhere to charge it.
- Big crate of canned food with pull top openers.
- Tool kit
- First aid kit
- Lots of matches
- Torch and batteries
I would be hoping there was fresh water on the island and would make a shelter with the trees and foliage.
- Satellite phone with paid for contract
- Fully kitted out, fueled 100ft yacht
- A manual on how to pilot a 100ft yacht
- Sunglasses
- Water
The problem with "kits, big crates, lots of, equipment, fully kitted out yachts, and" etc, is that it's cheating.
They all contain a lot more than 5 items.
Playing by the same rules I'm going to take:
- Harrods Department Store
- Waitrose Supermarket
- A House
- A Gin Palace Superyacht
- A Freshwater Tanker
I reckon that lot will cover the basics:
Water, Food, Shelter, Fire, Rescue Signals & Escape.
I might even be more comfortable than at home! Very nice beds in Harrods.
Of course, for all I know, this 'deserted island' might be the one in the middle of the lake in St. James's Park, next to Buckingham Palace. If so, I could just shout to the tourists to toss me a free copy of the Metro every morning and a free copy of the Evening Standard around tea time. And my Gin Palace Superyacht would be a bit of a waste!

Johnny You are absolutely hilarious! Laughing my socks off with the tourist part!
- Ryan Reynolds
- Robbie Williams
- Josh Durhamel
- Bradley Cooper
- Jake Gyllenhaal
oh was that not what you meant?
CaseyJaneRand It has to be things not people. Also, you might not enjoy your time with those individuals if you don't know them personally. They might not be exactly who you think they are. Plus in situations like being trapped on a deserted island it might bring out the worst in them, you never know.
No clothes, shoes, food, or shelter? I hope you're going somewhere warm!
I was thinking if it's a tropical island with coconut trees I might take a ladder. It's almost imposssible to get the fresh coconuts down without one.
