What are you planning to put on it?

You can get a 1TB of external storage for under £40 nowadays.

AmazingPerson Depending on budget and how much space you need then the USB may be the best option.

but you can get a lot of storage for not much money with an external drive.

How much would you need? 1TB despite looking like a lot, it's more around only 940 GB-ish.

If you use a lot then try to get at least 2TB.

Modern computers accept just about as much as you want. If you want 10TB then it'll take it on. Mareean

Wow. It only feels like yesterday since 1GB was considered as being a lot.

Personally I use both. Sticks I find a bit annoying thou as they are easily mislaid and if you have a few sticks it is are difficult to work out what you have on them , without plugging them in. but they are very portable . External hard drive is probably better if you don't need portability

I think if you have a fast usb 3.0 port and maybe buy a low profile usb 3.0 stick the type that don't stick out from the usb port and want permanent expanded storage for a laptop you can format it as non-removable storage and put the windows swap file on it and it can make the laptop much faster. Only makes sense if your laptop runs windows from a hard drive though not a solid state drive already. Also you can't remove the usb drive. It can give a decent speed boost though especially with larger applications and games, video editing etc.

Do you have a cd dvd drive?

If so then remove it - install a laptop dvd/cd hdu swap drive cage and put another hard drive in it, thats what all my laptops have now and my desktops and servers!
