My sons are close in age and sleep in the same room. Until recently the same bed.

When my eldest got her own bed I used to lie with her till she settled then went to my own room

As soon as they slept through the night for a week they were put in their own room. Never had any trouble with them staying or sleeping until youngest went to a friends house for a sleepover age 8 and they watched Scream then it took months to get them to say in own room. There were no more sleepovers!

We've never had our children in our bed, so they basically went into their own beds at 2 yr old when they had outgrown their cots, my sister in law made the mistake of having her daughter in their bed, she is now 8 years old and still sleeping in their bed, you would think the older they get the more chance of getting them into their beds, it's the total opposite, it gets harder

My son never came into our bed, he was in his cot till he out grew it and a bed around 2 years old.

We bought a cd player to play a lullaby cd at night as he would come out if we were still up (lived in a flat at that age) and the cd worked wonders for keeping in his room and fall asleep. Did that for the first few months and then was absolutely fine to go by himself etc.

Our son is 5 and a half, he still comes through to our bed. It has taken a long time to get him to sleep in his own bed and to not wake through the night. He had to be given medication throughout the night when younger and it took a long time for him to get out of the routine. I will stay in his room till he falls asleep and when he wakes up I go through and sometimes he falls back to sleep in his bed, other times he comes through to ours.

I just had to persevere with getting him into his own bed and still persevering now. He used to wake up ever hour when younger, so I don't mind that he wakes up once a night now!

Just got to find a routine that works for you. Maybe ask your daughter why she doesn't like sleeping alone.

Your daughter is finding her boundaries as to who is in charge in your family. At the moment it sounds like she is winning. She is old enough to sleep alone so long as environment is safe and you are ready for her to sleep alone. Many people have a nursery next door to their room so their child is sleeping alone from a much earlier age.

Is there any reason she needs to sleep in her own bed?

I will always welcome my children in my bed, they feel calmer and sleep more content.

When the child's ready. Each child will be different. They will go jn their beds when they are developmentally ready. Enjoy it in the mean time. I miss mine being in my bed
