Aldi Self Checkout
Ask a Question
It’s about time they rolled out self checkout tills at Aldi, as I often find myself stuck behind people who do huge shops, whereas I might only have a handful of items
however, having announced their plans to do so last week, customers took to twitter to voice their concerns
are you a fan of self checkout? would you want to see it in Aldi?
Nope I don’t like self checkout they never work properly then you have to wait for someone to come over and help you. Plus the more self check outs they have the less staff they also have. more people loose their jobs again to technology
I am a fan of self check out as the normal checkout can be far too slow and when you are in a hurry it just annoys me standing waiting for a couple of items while the person in the front its telling his or her life story to cashier. I think shops should have both self check out and normal checkout.
I agree. I prefer the self checkouts as I can also check that the prices I’ve paid for are correct - although I rarely have issues at Aldi, sometimes in tescos and sainsburys the promo prices of items are not updated on the system, and that annoys me when you have to then go to customer services to rectify it. At least with ASDA they will give you a voucher for such mistakes
I am a fan of self service i don't see the point of queuing up if you only have a basket or a handful of things. speeds up the process .
Not sure this will be much benefit in Aldi as to be fair, the staff pretty swift and efficient at scanning your shopping anyway, they just need more tills in their stores. My local Aldi has about 7 tills, my local Asda has 20+ manned tills , about 20 self scan and a scan and shop section to pay at.
I like self scan tills in other supermarkets but can't say they are quick to use as more often and not you they come to a stop midway and you have to wait for a member of staff
Self checkout In aldi already in Bedfordshire i rarely go out but tried other day didn't realise card only lol x
I could understand it if they put more self checkouts in Lidl because they are comparatively slow in my area. Aldi, on the other hand, are really speedy and their staff seem to take great pride in being swift. (I love the effort I put in just to keep up!) I suppose it will be beneficial to anyone who pops in for a couple of items and are short of time. I was once told by a staff member at Lidl that the branch had to clear a specific weekly turnover before they would consider SS so I don't think it will be all branches. (I tend to go to those SS branches)
That’s true, as they are very quick - I once joked that there ought to be some kind of scanning contest, as the staff are so quick and efficient, as well as polite as they do the job
Self checkouts are a great idea but i still dont think their the best. Ive often found myself waiting longer at a self checkout because half of the time something goes wrong with unexpected item in bagging area and yoh have to wait for help.
Also there are many items that can not be sold via a SS checkout (alcohol and certain medicines are just a few of them) without verification from a member of staff, so in many cases you have to wait for someone who is available to verify your age, whereas, in most cases, a quick glance by the checkout operator is enough at the till.
I love the scan your shopping as you go and pack everything into your own bags. My local Waitrose doesn’t offer this so I drive 20mile round trip to another branch because I find it so useful.
I never thought Lidl were going to get self checkouts, but they have and now they are everywhere. So it is about time Aldi did it too
Self checkouts are too open to fraud, apart from that the Aldi checkout system must be one of the fastest anywhere, if I see someone with just a few items I let them go before me - as do most people where I shop.
I only use self-checkout occasionally mainly when I have a low amount of items, I guess I use it regularly at Poundland but infrequently elsewhere. I often buy short-life products and the bar code won't scan correctly or other issues and the one staff member for the self-checkouts is often dealing with someone else so I have to wait. The higher the number of items the less likely I will use self-checkout as the greater possibility of problems.
