If You Could Be Alive During Any Decade...
Ask a Question
Which one would it be and why?
It cannot be one you've already lived through.
I would have liked to live in England during the 60s. Perhaps I’ve romanticized it a bit watching too much Endeavour, but there’s just something about the clothes and the music and the burgeoning social change that I find so enchanting.
I have to say that I believe I was alive in one of the best decades.....the 50s, 55 to 65. Ok, we didn't have modern medicine or technology but you can't miss what you never had. England was still a green and pleasant land and children played outdoors all day during school holidays, enjoying an active social life with their peers and getting lots of fresh air and exercise. There wasn't much obesity, children were in the main better behaved, ate what they were given and school and home life was disciplined.
Of course it wasn't an idyll, there was still domestic violence, crime, poverty but despite occasionally having a slice of bread in Oxo gravy for Sunday lunch and cardboard stuffed into my leaky shoes I don't remember feeling hard done by.
I could go on and on but will leave it there.
I have been watching older movies recently like carousel and seven wives for seven brothers and I would have loved to have grown up in those times. It looks magical
I wonder whether I would have preferred to have been around at an earlier time, when things were much simpler... No technology!
Also, on a different note, I would have liked to have had access to the more affordable housing that the older generations benefitted from. Although, I hope that it is possible for this to be made available in the future too.
