Alternatives to Teaching?

I guess that unless you work from home no job will be 100% safe. You could work with 100 people or 5 and one of those five could carry covid. This is why it is so important that everyone gets vaccinated.

In the future it will hopefully be no worse than flu and you would just take sick leave no matter the job.

However, if you don't want to teach because of changing your mind, well, that's another matter.

My granddaughter began teaching after her degree, still did her masters and will hopefully start her PhD this year, she wants to be a university lecturer (Professor).

I would think you could opt for journalism, writing, adult education, teaching abroad etc.

Probably no safer job at the moment . Contrary to popular belief kids (especially pre teens ) are much less likely to be infectious than adults . The infections that have been traced to schools have been in the main been due parents mixing while dropping off picking up kids or even picking it up at home from another family member .

Add to that the very strictest of hygiene and testing now in place at every school I think it is among the safest professions we have .

Instead of listening to the scare stories read up on the actual facts and I think you'll agree with me .

You are far safer in a school than in a shop , a bus , train etc and remember we are learning to manage it much better and will hopefully see the end of it as the mass killer it was over the winter .

Teach life skills instead hunting cooking stuff like that i think is of way more use

If you get the qualification you could always try it while you make up your mind. The more people get the vaccine the safer we will all be

Teaching is probably a safer bet than most professions at the moment. Kids still need their education and teachers always needed

You could teach online, or make tutorial videos and share across different platforms. You might not make much, but it’s something. After all, if your passion is to teach, the money is only a bonus

You could join a company which deals in online tutoring and you could either teach from home or make contents for online lectures.

As a teacher I can tell you that if you only see it as a job then you will be miserable! It doesn't need to be your passion but you need to have a passion for it, because it is a hard job! It isn't a job that finishes at half 3 when the bell goes, it goes a lot deeper than just teaching the kids information. There are reports to write, homework to mark, parents evenings, CPD events, tracking and monitoring, constantly adapting resources. Plus you need to write tests, mark the tests, make sure that all resources met not just your subject es and os but literacy, skills, problem solving etc. You have to attend departmental meetings, produce evidence to back up pupils exam results, have evidence of pupils work in case they need to appeal a grade. Then there is the behavioural side of things and knowing how to deal with parents.

Whilst it is a very rewarding job, it is not an easy one and there are a number of things you don't discover until you are in your probation year.

Covid is a big issue just now, but you need to think about teaching in the long term and whether it is really what you want to do.
