Amazon to Use Paper Bags for Deliveries

I received an order with this packaging and it was not ideal, the item came somewhat crushed, but not enough to complain to Amazon about it. If it's seriously damaged, then I would.

I don’t think that packaging gives any protection to the contents. Amazon could find they’re going to have replace lots of orders.

It's fine for grocery shopping, but deliveries? Amazon did not think this through.

Even their boxes nowadays are very fragile. I had a couple of deliveries for fizzy drinks and by the time they got here it was barely in the box.

I had a package from them and noticed the new packaging. It was fine for my order but I can see that it wouldn't do for all products.

I am expecting a roll of wonder web from Amazon today, merely to take my order to £20 plus. It would be perfectly ok in a bag and hopefully easier to get through letter box if I am out. However, the other part of my order wouldn't fare too well as it is 6 plunge top containers of child's farm moisturiser!

PS I got my 6 pack of Childs Farm and guess what? They were in a box INSIDE a paper bag!!!

On a similar subject but not wishing to create a topic too similar: I am feeling really guilty that a roll of wonder web is being delivered separately to my other order. It has been explained previously on here that items often come from separate warehouses, but that doesn't make me feel any better. All that fuel and pollution and traffic jams for a roll of wonder web! All because Amazon offer free delivery, if distributed by them, over £20. Surely the cost of delivering that item is far more than the item's value.

I am no longer going to use amazon, I don't believe in their ethics anyway, my future vouchers or gift cards will be used for books for my kindle.

Lynibis Think of that Amazon driver making 100 deliveries a day in your neighbourhood using a fantastically well organised and super efficient route. Then compare the fuel used by the Amazon driver to what would happen if those 100 people got in their cars to go to the shops instead, only to find many of the items were out of stock, necessitating yet another trip by car to the shops. Which do you think is better for the environment?

(In fact some Amazon drivers do 200 drops a day!)

Johnny I get you Johnny, but most people wouldn't go to the shops just for one item. I would normally have got my wonder web in the supermarket with the groceries had it not been about the £20 for free delivery. But I do take your point.

Lynibis The Amazon delivery drivers around my area have the new Electric vehicles, if they're not available in your area, they should be soon.

I've had a couple of parcels from Amazon with this packaging, seemed to work well although I'd not want it used on anything fragile/liable to crush.

Well I suppose at least they are trying to do better for the environment considering the global size of amazon I imagine they make quite an impact on the environment.

Midnightflower The problem with it is that it has no protection for fragile items, it could at least have bubblewrap or something to protect it from being crushed.

At that point it could go from new to "used like new" if it arrives banged up.

PhilipMarc Yes alot more common sense may be needed to get it working well. I doubt it will take long when they get lots of returns and complaints.

It depends on item I've had things in these bags that have been fine

Amazon have been using these paper bags for a while now and so far anything that I've received in them have been acceptable and wouldn't be damaged, they have also started using paper envelopes too.

pato envelopes? Don't remember any deliveries with it so far.

I have monthly S&S from Amazon, a bottle was kind of damaged without leaking, some cookies' boxes crushed.. If it gets too bad I'll just cancel the whole thing. Not something I'd bother returning.

PhilipMarc I bought a phone case and it came in a white envelope, they would normally come in a cardboard envelope which could be re-used if I was selling on e-bay.

I received a Amazon package in a paper bag, but as it has a box inside, I didn't think anything of it, it was still a very big bag for the item 😀

I have received several orders in bags, but also boxes. Still getting stupid big boxes with a tiny item in it filled with that paper stuff. Then get another two item on its own in a bag delivered at same time..They would have all fitted in the bag or box. They bags seem good in the fact I would say tamper proof with how it sealed. You would know if someone opened it.

On the other hand, I feel sometimes they're packaging leaves a lot to be desired. I can order the smallest of things, but the packaging it's sent in, you could fit a laptop in 😂

I received my packages yesterday, one was in a paper bag and one in a box. The parcel in the paper bag was fine and no excess packaging.

It depends on the product. I just received a Dylon fabric dye wash pod and a paper bag would have been sufficient but it came in a box.

I always re-use the plastic envelopes or boxes that Amazon send my parcels in. I would not be happy to have my parcel or packaged delivered in a paper bag. That is gross.

jam45 I too do that, except when the boxes arrive completely damaged due to carrying heavy items inside. It just wasn't made for it.

That may work well if they deliver it well

Some of my items get damaged even if they are in boxes

Let’s see but I’m expecting people to complain

Received my 12 way power strip in one of these paper bags so can't even reuse to ship an item. Just ripped out the address for the paper shredder, and the rest to the bin.

PhilipMarc I got an Ipad case today and it as in a paper bag, I also bought a set of head torches and they were in the small box, which I can and will re-use.

If you are planning on buying something as a gift, make sure you read the packing description before ordering as a lot of items are now being shipped in their own packaging, which come with large address labels on the packets, which isn't ideal for a gift.

pato Read this, but it still surprised me it arrived exactly with its packaging.

Someone could have opened it and stole the cables, though that's what Hermes does, not Amazon. 😆

PhilipMarc I've never really had any issues with Hermes, hopefully my luck won't change now with Evri, but you are 100% correct, somebody could easily tamper with the parcels.

pato yeah, they're called Evri now, but it's hard to forget what they did in the past.

When I read Evri, I just think: "Ugh, it's Hermes with a new name. 😑"

And this guy...

He likes damaging people's property, then his house or car (if he has one) should get the same treatment.

Hermes once lost an item (thankfully it was a £6 item so I got a refund) and another time they never picked up the parcel (it stayed there for about a week) that the seller meant to sent me. So, he ended up sending as a business parcel.

I always get worried if a parcel comes via Herm-- I mean Evri.

Edit: Even in Germany (according to the language) they're the same.

My Amazon deliveries this week were all in cardboard boxes with usual amount lot of paper packaging and space.

Seems Amazon stopped using those crappy paper bags in favor of cardboard bags as they're definitely better (no damage to the items).

It’s amazing how much Amazon prime has become apart of our lives isn’t it. I can’t remember the last time I went proper shopping.

I’ve ordered a few items recently from Amazon and all were delivered with the extortionate amount of packaging. In fairness nothing was damaged.

I have had deliveries (not sure if from Amazon or other companies) in this packaging and not had any issues. I’m sure not all items would be packaged in this but it would help to cut down on unnecessary amounts of packaging and I would prefer it where appropriate 🙂
