Anyone Got Any Holiday Booked Abroad in the near Future?

Ask a Question

My mum just told me that she had planned to come to see us next month (she lives in Denmark/Switzerland) but with the current situation, she is not going to come.

Has anyone got any holiday booked in the near future and is there any compensation if you have to cancel due to coronavirus?

We havent booked our holiday aborad this year as was waiting to see if the prices came down a bit after Thomas Cook going bust and everyone hiking up the costs. We have got a weekend away booked in April for my sons rugby tour and a weekend with my parents in May though. Not sure they will go ahead and not sure if they will refund the costs - we dont buy insurance for UK getaways. Luckily we have only paid about £300 for the both so wont be too bad for us if their cancelled.

We were due to go to Majorca on 30th March. On Friday evening 6pm Travel Agent gave us the option to cancel (balance was to be paid Monday) with no cancellation charges. Flights had been paid for in full so waiting to see if we get anything back if not we've lost £60 because airline was still flying, but I'm hopeful as things change so quickly.

I wouldn't even contemplate going abroad unnecessarily, even if I was much younger. People might be able to get to where they wish to go then find it very difficult, or even impossible, to get back.

From what I've been told by a friend who lives in Spain, I wouldn't go there if they paid me to,

I wasn’t booking anything for other reasons, but then the outbreak happened and I’ve just chosen not to go anywhere. I hate booking anything far ahead anyway. Cancellation policies vary with most companies, and lots of them are struggling atm

Regarding compensation if you have to cancel because of Coronavirus, I think it will depend on when the insurance was taken out and holiday booked, if before this all blew up there might be a chance. But the way things are now no insurer is likely to cover the risk, there is too much of a likelihood of it happening. If any insurer was willing to "chance it" the premium would probably be astronomical. I am reasonably certain any policy issued now would not cover cancellation because of Covid-19.

We were due to go to India this coming Friday. All visas were withdrawn last week so we won’t be going. Luckily, the travel company have rebooked the trip for next January! Hopefully, everything will be okay by then.

I was meant to go to my sister's in France next week and spend time with my baby niece. And my parents were meant to visit us in April. So that's a shame. We didn't book proper holiday this year due to a couple of reasons and now I'm glad we didn't

We booked our flights to Hungary, before we even known this virus is exist.

And Hungary went into kind of city lock down, which means people can not move around and go to other cities, they need to stay near to their homes. It is very likely, that we can not go, but we have insurance and it covers us.

But I think even if u do not have insurance, if your flight can not go the company meant to provide u with something.

We were booked to go to Malta on the 18th of March (we booked it back in December) before all this commotion. Ryanair haven't cancelled our flights even though malta is imposing a 14 day quarantine to anybody who enters the country so we're not entitled to a refund because technically we can still go. So we're just out of pocket now and not going away 🤷🏻‍♀️

The way the travel industry is currently going, i doubt anyone will be going abroad unless you are swimming to get there
