Asda and Lidl Limit Egg Sales after Supply Issues

Ask a Question

Have you noticed any shortages? because I haven't.

One of the reasons given was there was an increase in demand due people baking for Christmas plus supply issues.

Some UK farmers are cutting back or halting egg production this year due to rising costs. Russia's invasion of Ukraine has driven up farmers' energy bills along with the cost of chicken feed, hens and packaging.

Not noticed a shortage but they will produce one as everybody buys them, Self fulfilling prophecy.

Howmuch I would normally agree, but the other day we were on the way to York and had to go through an avian flu area, so I do think this is effecting supply.

beccatavender They will travel Further and cost more but I am sure the big retailers will source them.

I don't eat eggs, so I am not bothered by a shortage of them. There is load of food you can eat without eggs included in the recipe.

many say we don't really eat eggs but when you realise the products you buy regularly that contain egg will most likely go up in price or be in limited supply if this case where egg are less and less in stock where to become on going

When I was in Lidl the other day there were no eggs on the shelves, same the week before. Went to Aldi and had no problem getting eggs. I don't buy eggs that often so if there is a shortage I will just do without.

MrsCraig Ditto, we only get them if we fancy scrambled eggs on the weekend.

I worry about this as I buy in bulk as I am a full time cake maker. The bird flu won’t help this problem

possy I hope you continue to have a stable supply, from reading the article other supermarkets are not following suit, they are even talking about importing eggs from Italy, but that must have cost implications.

beccatavender there is always something, it’s unreal, will we ever get back to normal life. We have a lot of hen farms close by so I’m sure I will be fine. Thankyou

The shortage is due to restrictions and culls brought in because of several outbreaks of Bird Flu in the country . Also a reason why you may want to get your Xmas turkey early as there is predicted to be a shortage of those too.

I was adding to my Tesco order yesterday and loads of egg brands weren't available, including Tesco's own brand.

i didn't realise there was a shortage either. I love eggs. I boil 6 at a time and keep them in the fridge and have one a day as a healthy snack.

SaveMeSunday OMG! Are you saying you boil 6 eggs at once and EAT one a day? What's wrong with cooking one egg per day?

I have not noticed a lack of eggs or other products in my local store but have noticed the rise in prices so I am careful to shop around more.
