Have You Had a Bad Experience in a Hotel?

Ask a Question

Have you ever had a bad hotel experience?

Maybe a wedding on at the same time that kept you up all night, the room being dirty or a creepy Air BNB host?

Last time we stopped in hotel we chose it mainly based on pool. It had a roof put on two years previously and not updated online and water was freezing cold

Yes, A hotel we stayed at in Northumberland. My friend had stayed previously years before & raved about it. She was eager to go back as its supposedly haunted & she's very much into that sort of thing, so as we were going to be in the area anyways for a get together she booked 2 rooms to stay overnight rather than driving home late. It was a let down from the moment we entered. A particular room she'd booked was unavailable on arrival. This was due to repairs going on we were told, later learnt that was not the case & someone was staying in it. They wanted payment up front for the new rooms we booked (should have been our first clue). The entrance looked a little old & tired but got worse the further into the hotel we went. Buckets everywhere catching leaks, wallpaper hanging off, some of which had been stapled back. dusty as hell, sticky carpets, smelt of damp. Not a single hanging picture that wasn't lopsided. The lights in one of the rooms didn't work. Only one socket in the room worked. They had threaded a cable through the wall into the toilet. So if you wanted the bathroom you had to unplug the lamp in the room to plug in the light for bathroom. Complained, told no other rooms available. Come morning we were not optimistic about breakfast. Rightfuly so. I ordered eggs on toast & was pretty much given a raw egg on a slice of bread. Spoke to manager to complain before we left & he just did not seemed bothered at all. Offered us a discount on another stay we politely told him that would not be happening & wiped our feet on the way out.

Iv just read reviews on it & if you can believe it, it seems its actually got worse! Its a damn shame tho because its a historial building & could have so much potential in a stunning area.

When I lived at home as teenager we stayed in a b&b in Folkestone. It was awful. I had the single room on top floor and parents on a lower floor. I’m convinced the walls were moving and I got scared. Gate crashed parents room for second night. The breakfast was sloppy scrambled egg and even when asked to change came out no better. Didn’t like the place either. Been back since and the place is much better and different hotel with husband.

Yes I would love to name and shame but I can’t although I did on trip advisor. My husband booked this expensive hotel just outside Windsor as a birthday treat because I wanted to visit the castle where we had a lovey day.

We booked a hotel in Turkey a few years ago, oh dear it was absolutely terrible, was like something from the 1930's, bed bugs ect... The list was endless , we moved out the next day and booked into another

I have had some occasional issues, most times the hotel has solved the problems but sometimes they don’t. I remember i booked a cheap hotel in blackpool but on the day i got an email from booking.com/ to say we had been moved to another hotel which had a lower rating.

I wasn’t particularly happy because I wouldn’t have picked to stay there and i did complain but nothing came of it.

SamGoodship yeah i was annoyed because i felt that it was done last minute as they knew we would already be on the way and didn’t have much choice in the matter.

When i was a kid though i remember going to majorca and they overbooked the hotel we were supposed to stay at. They actually upgraded us to this exclusive resort that people couldn’t even stay at cause the waiting list was too long.

We were once given our keys... opened the door... and there's a family asleep inside.

Ha, ha, ha this is original and amusing. Didn't any of the hotel staff not check the room before hand? Were you given a superior room as compensation, Tom?

Hotel in Dunfermline, a drunk man walked into our room looking for the toilet, through the adjoining doors that the cleaner left open. I complained, we got a free 1 night stay with 3 course meal and wine.

LukeDunn16340 An excellent compensation offer for a petty discomfort. I wouldn't have complained. But I will next time if something like this happens to me.

I also stayed at a Haven park for a week this summer, the cleaning standards were really poor. I was given a £30 food voucher, after two days of complaining I was offered £50 refund, I rejected it, then offered two days refund again rejected it as it's their policy to provide a full refund if they do not resolve cleaning issues. Full refund of £690.

LukeDunn16340 Wow, wow, wow. Good for you Luke, I wouldn't even complain about their cleaning standards. I would have put it down to bad luck. Thanks for putting ideas into my head!

A half eaten ginsters pasty was still in the fridge, in a Hilton hotel!! The receptionist looked at me as if questioning what I wanted done!!

I have had many bad experiences. The last one I found a dog ball under the bed. The one before that the hot tub in the pool area had not been cleaned probably and kept foaming so I did not go in.

when I was young we went to Weymouth for 2 weeks because the hotel we usually stayed at in Broadstairs was unavailable. The room was ok just a tad small for 4 of us. The food well thats another story. The fried eggs on the breakfast the white was still runny and opaque. Dinners were that small we went out every night and had fish and chips afterwards. Apparently on the Friday I pipes up "everything is Birds Eye except the plate" within earshot of the landlady🤣 🤣

a hotel in Malta. Unfortunately building work going on to the right hand side of our room’s balcony. Builders started at 7am!

one evening went to roof bar and restaurant as an excellent view of city at night. Ordered food and after 1 1/2 hours no show. As I am Type 1 diabetic I need to get my food asap. Finally after much deliberation our food was delivered but by this time had to substitute with energy tablets.

one wonderful member of staff but will NEVER visit again.

I do not know if this is relevant to this, but we was on our way to see family in Scotland, so we stayed in a hotel half way and I opened a cupboard and I spotted some adult toys I thought it was funny but my lass did not we did get the room for free

Holiday Inn, Knightsbridge has the smallest rooms ever and the bathroom size and shape is a disgrace. Toilet is wedged in a corner and can only be accessed if you squeeze past the wash hand basin sideways. Wish I had taken photos.
