Banning Animal Fur Products

In the News

In the US, California has become the first state to ban the manufacture and sale of animal fur to begin from 2023

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-50030291

Good news?

What do you think of this?

I think this should be banned world wide as a lot of people are under the impression the animal is already dead when they are skinned, when in fact most animals are skinned alive. The animal is still alive for a few minutes after and their body goes into shock. All this so people can keep warm in 'luxury'

But why 2023? Why not now?? Too many animals will have been killed by then - all in the name of fashion!

True that they're skinned alive and in that case it should be banned but at the farms they don't care about it.

Rockman Yeah farms are just as bad, don't get me started! I watched a programme on how to spot real fur as some of it otherwise is difficult to tell.

If people are against fur, why eat meat? Seems hypocritical of them. lucyeva72

Definitely good news. And they ought to ban other animal skins too, as there is no need to be wearing alligator or snake as a fashion accessory

Just a shame a lot of "fake fur" is not and is actually dog. That needs to stop

California. What a surprise.

Come on, people eat meat so it's normal that a lot like to wear their fur and have it as decoration and on the floors too.

fur wearing doesn’t have anything to do with eating meat, and as you’ve stated, use of fur is for decoration purposes. I certainly don’t eat meat because it’s fashionable

But the thing is, it's taken from animals too. hspexy

Whether fur is used for fashion or not that's kind of irrelevant, it's used and that's it.

Rockman are you vegetarian? if not, then as much as you’re trying to prove a point, it’s pointless

hspexy No. To be fair, this double-standard of having an issue with the fur but not the meat doesn't make much sense. So it's a no-no for fur but meat is perfectly fine? 🤨

Rockman yes, as I’ve stated already, I eat meat because it is nutritious for me, not because it’s fashionable. I think you need to make the distinction between necessity and fashion. If you can’t make that distinction, then you’ll never understand. Especially as you’re not a vegetarian either

Fashion, really? Tons of people couldn't care less what they wear but god forbid they'd use fur and automatically he/she is using it because it's fashionable. hspexy

Rockman I don’t believe you can speak for everyone - I’m sure lots of people do care, hence the ban

exactly this ^ in this day and age, it’s not necessary - fair enough before they had the ability and technology to make faux fur, maybe it was necessary but now there’s no excuse for it...

I agree. It’s taken a long time to get the people to agree to a ban, especially as it’s purely for aesthetics rather than necessity

Some companies have no fur policy, but because they buy stuff from China, they may get real fur by accident.

Yes that’s very true, as manufacturing practices are not being regulated, so you will get animal fur in products labelled as faux fur. Such a shame, but hopefully things will change as they are making progress over there also, albeit slowly

Its crazy to think they still have fur farms, makes me so angry there is no need for it, the cruelty the animals suffer
