Benefits Britian

Ask a Question

Has anyone watched any of the shows about those who claim benefits?

If so what are your thoughts and feelings?

I have claimed in the past for a short period of time after i got made redundant with no notice at last minute, i have no problem with peopleclaiming if needed but get angered when people claim due to being lazy.

Most people need a helping hand at some time, but there are a lot of people taking the right pee (I have a couple in the family).

What really annoys me is people that don't work at all, have a load of kids and expect the tax payers to support them.

I think they always target vulnerable people to participate in these programmes,i don't think it's right really,as it's for pure entertainment.

Most people dont want to be on benefits and are lost half the time.

There was a much better programme quite a while ago(I cant remember the name),more like an experiment, setting people up with their yearly allowance, paid in full,if they are willing to try their best and seek employment and become independent. Most the participants set up their own businesses and succeeded in making a go of things, they had financial guidance. It really proved a point that people dont want to rely on handouts, each situation is different x

Myself and my partner are both full time working parents. Because of the government and the way that benefits are set I would actually be better of money wise as a single unemployed mum.

As a DWP employee these programmes annoy me so much and the same for many of my colleagues. They just glorify the ones who are lazy & tend to focus on them a bit like clickbait articles on social media. It's all about shock but at the same time is there the public desire to see a show about people who signed on for 6 weeks and got a job no problem? I wish we had a few shows about those who overcame multiple barriers and moved into work.

There are so many people who are unfortunate to have to claim benefits who really want to work and for whatever reason it isn't quite happening. I've worked frontline in the jobcentre in the past and the majority of claimants do want to work. I get really cross at these programmes.

As already said above, the people who take the mick are a small minority. The cost to those of us paying taxes is negligible. It's like everything in life. The minority of idiots will always stand out more and certainly make good television unfortunately. I'm sure some of them play up to the cameras to try and become some sort of reality star. That is rather ironic because they're actually being quite enterprising!
