Best Cheap Wine for a Christmas Eve Party?

Any suggestions? Something not too sour but slightly sweet is my preference. Thanks ever so much!

White, red or rose? Can it be leaning towards fruity or not?

Oh yeah I forgot to mention red wine, supposedly better for the heart. Not too fruity like ribena lol just want something not too strong with the alcohol taste.

jakemoss Personally I would go with an Italian Merlot every time. Reasonably priced and it's mellow.....but you know you've had a drink! As promised will look back tomorrow.

jakemoss Tesco Finest Montepulciano D'abruzzo down to £6 atm - (Italian) reliable. Asda Wolf Blass yellow label (Australian) £7 - smooth finish. Lindemans Bin 40 Merlot - about £7 Very smooth but strong 13.5% (Australian) Atlas Frappatto about £5.50 - smells fruity but very gluggable. My favourite, an Italian Merlot, tends to range from between £5 - £9 a bottle I am not a sommelier so my choice is a risk. The only thing that I can assure you about is that I hate dry reds, not keen on full boddied or oak aged barrelled wines. In fact, all the attributes that most wine buffs bang on about......I tend to select the more rounded flavours that I described as creamy or a mellow finish. I hope this helps. Happy hunting.

angemski Wow that's for the epic research, I'll check those out and I think I'll buy them all haha. I do love a good wine after a good hearty meal mind. Cheers
