Best Oil for Cooking Chips?

Have to clean the deep fat fryer today. I only use it for chips and use another one to cook everything else so that the oil says relatively clean.

What oil do you use for cooking chips?

I've had a look online, but some sites say sunflower and some say vegetable πŸ™„

Does anyone have any advice?

I make my chips in the oven. Par boil, either as chips or wedges, toss in a little olive oil mixed with salt n pepper, put in very hot oven and turn after 10 mins - yum yum πŸ™‚

heatherduthie I use Crisp & Dry when it's on offer, otherwise, I'm too light.

I believe that is rapeseed oil?

TheChimp yes it is rapeseed oil. I try to buy it when it’s on offer too, but I do find it is the best oil for frying chips. My dad used to use a Chip pan with lard. Best home made chips I’ve ever tasted. But a heart attack waiting to happen 😭😭😭😭😭

heatherduthie My mum used to use lard before switching to oil.

I tried using lard again around 20 years later, but couldn't get on with the taste.

I use vegetable oil sunflower after using tends to smell little fishy. I use my all time for homemade chips.

How do you clean your?

I use elbow grease but of water switch on for few minutes knock off before boils. Comes up like new

Ann1984 My 'chipper' machine is a cheap one and I just clean it in the sink with lots of Fairy.

The other one is more expensive. The heating element just slides out as a separate unit and you can just lift out the oil holder to empty easily. And it comes apart too, so you can put everything in the dishwasher (I don't have a dishwasher though)

I'll second lard/beef fat / dripping or whatever you want to call it. That's what they use in chip shops (and they know what they are doing πŸ˜€) . Now what is the "healthiest" is a totally different question πŸ™„.

Grapeseed oil is the best.

Bought an airfryer (silly me) but deep fried is still the best tasting!

KTC sunflower oil we been using in cooking and frying since long time.we always buy 5L bottle you’re can buy from Asda or Morrison or Sainsbury’s only Β£5 or Β£5.50 😊

Re first message. Never cook with olive oil. Turns to very unhealthy fat when heated. I only learned this when my partner had heart problem. I thought it was healthy before that - but were advised to use rape seed or vegetable oil

You could cut chips then boil them for 10-minutes then put them in the oven to Brown

Pppathome Na, I like mine extra crispy, so the chipper machine is the only way.

Vegetable oil I prefer to fry them twice so the become crispy on out and soft inside

I used vegetable oil is really nice for fry chips

If u want ur chips crispy fry first half cooked than after when it cool fryed it second time will tand so perfect
