Best Yoga for Absolute Beginners?

Ask a Question

Hi! I am a complete beginner to yoga, and have started by using some youtube videos. Yoga has been great for stress relief so i want to continue on but using random youtube videos is not very consistent with the poses and type of yoga.

I was wondering if anyone knows of a particular programme catering to complete beginners to get them to a medium stage?

There are plenty of free Apps you could try, just found This One but havent tried it myself. I have a set routine from my physio so have to stick with that

I subscribe to the Daily Yoga App and it has been fantastic. I pay around £30 for an annual membership and I really love it. You can try some sessions for free to see if you like it. That's how I started initially. I also had a couple of free trials as well.

There are lots of free classes on YouTube and other online platforms. However, I have a cache of programs and sessions that I use regularly.

Daily Yoga has really helped with my flexibility, core strength and balance. I would recommend it to everyone.

I watch Yoga by Adriene on Youtube. She's so lovely and always gives you different pose options to make sure you don't strain yourself. It's all about being in comfortable poses and you will eventually loosen up more and increase flexibility 😊

I would try one of the many free apps that are available as others have said, find one that appears to suit what you're looking for and go from there 🙂

I did a little bit of yoga with Adrienne. I did like it but have very weak wrists so can't do most of the poses. Practices are between 15 and 45 minutes if I remember well

In my experience there is no such thing as yoga for beginners. There are set moves you have to do (downwards facing dog for eg) and the difference between beginners, medium and expert is the length of time you do it for. I came to the conclusion yoga was something that you need to start in your teens if you really want to be good at it and have the flexibility. I was doing it at a gym and I have fibromyalgia and rheumatism. Let's say my flexibility wasn't as good as it needed to be for the positions. I then swapped to youtube videos for a bit. I didn't enjoy it. It was intense. It made me feel like an old woman and didn't do much for my self esteem. Saying that, good luck with it. If you can bend well, then you'll be fine. I can't. I stopped doing it and don't miss it. Start off with 15 min sessions and build up.
