Do You Still Buy Birthday Cards?

Ask a Question

Do you still buy birthday cards for people or do you see them as a waste of money? How long do you keep birthday cards up until you either throw them away or keep them In storage?

I dislike cards tbh. I just find them a waste & a nuisance. Birthday cards I do put up for a couple days but I never bother putting up Christmas cards. I much prefer to receive a phone call or ecard. It's all down to personal preference tho.

I don't buy birthday cards for anyone anymore and only keep the ones from the wife.

They're an absolute rip-off, especially places like Moon Pig.

All I ask for my birthday is cards don't expect anything else I would keep them up at least a week then they go in my recycle box to use for gift tags

Feel guilty throwing them away but what do you do? Can’t keep them all? I know people recycle them but we burn ours in our fire...

usually up 2 weeks until I get fed up with them or next occasion happens!

Only for certain people, and only so I can personalise it with photos, etc. as part of the gifting experience. It’s pointless if all you write in them is ‘too xxx’ and ‘from xxx’

Yes and yes... I do try to limit the amount of birthday (and Christmas cards) I give. Especially, if I'm sending them by post - given the cost of stamps. Often it feels like more of an obligation than a kind gesture. Although, given everything that has happened over the last few months it's likely we'll see less card shops on the high street. Many still haven't reopened.

I still purchase cards, we keep them up for a week and I save my favourite ones. The really nice ones go into a frame on display.

I normally keep them for a few days and I like receiving them as it means someone thinks about me

I always buy cards - I know a lot of people who say they are more special and important than presents.. i spend a lot of time picking out a card for people in my life so I know it accurately represents them / something they like and I really appreciate when others do the same.. I really hate getting generic or cards that are nothing to do with me..

The only cards i buy is for my wife and parents that's cause they want a card. If they didn't then i wouldn't buy any cards, i see no difference in just saying what you want verbally instead of writing it down. I personally think its a waste of money and also time. I also hate going into card shops as people are there for days reading cards

Yes. It costs 2 - 3 quid to put a big smile on somebody's face.

I buy them for close family and friends and only normally keep the ones from my closest family and friends too, some distant relatives we only exchange cards so I do that too, I don’t really bother with Christmas cards though

I suppose when you think about it .. it does seem a waste of money .. but I wouldn't giving birthday presents without a card as it just seems incomplete to me.

I used to keep all of mine.. couldn't think of getting rid of them as it kind of felt bad and also sentimental.. but eventually I did .. I now keep the most special ones or atleast one from each person.

How about you 🤗

yes, i always ask people for cards to, as i keep sentimental ones for memories.

i keep my kids cards because one day those people wont be here and at least they will see the love they had for them

I think I will always continue to buy cards for my closest friends and family. Some of my family members say they would rather a card than anything else

I make my own cards and send to my close family. I run out of ideas now so they might get the same ones again..
