Is Blackpool Really That Bad ?

In the News

I used to love going the Blackpool, it had everything, beaches and the sea, entertainment , the trams, the fair, cheap food and drinks , and the icing on the cake was the illuminations

You can go to other parts of the UK and pay double for all the above mentioned

The drug problem isnt just in Blackpoool , it is rife everywhere

I may not go there that often anymore but i personally think the article is a bit unfair

Ok the food isnt the healthiest but some people in the UK cannot afford to eat anything and have to use food banks, so a £1 burger isn't so bad

I have never been to Blackpool but I’m sure it’s got lots to offer. Hopefully I will get to visit and decide for myself.

It's a great English seaside holiday spot. When I visited I went on the big roller coaster 🎢 scary for me 😆. Take and go and enjoy it for what it is , we all can't afford all inclusive holidays to the Caribbean or wellness breaks!!.

Get and enjoy a burger or fish and chips by the sea nothing better.

Apart from the Illuminations, Blackpool Is not what It used to be. I know someone who moved to where I live because how bad It was and still Is. They talk about unemployment but you can always find a job whether you like It or not. You will always find drugs being sold no matter where you live. Rhyl In North Wales Is the same too, or was.

I’ve never comprehended it being referred to as uk Las Vegas. Blackpool is nothing like Las Vegas and I’m in no hurry to return to Blackpool. Sorry to be negative.

Pjran I agree , you cannot compare it to Las Vegas P, but it is ok to take the family for a cheap day out ,especially if you cannot afford to spend too much

I don't like Blackpool, been there once and I felt it was awful. But then I'm not keen on anything it has to offer and found it far too busy and loud. I remember almost every other shop/ hotel/restaurant had the best fish and chips

I've never been there as quite a distance for me and have many south west seaside resorts close to me. However from what I've seen in videos it looks lovely, lots to see and do and a lot of fun. I'd definitely want to try the £1 burger and hot dog. No place is perfect. I remember reading about someone who went to Venice with high expectations but the food was poor and the place smelt of excrement to the point that he threw up on one occasion and the prices were ridiculous. The hotel was horrible and not clean and the holiday cost a fortune overall. Someone was even more damning of Paris. I've read of people complaining after going to Disney World they spent most of their time just queuing plus getting there and back was real hassle getting the flights etc. Also taking expensive foreign holidays has been shown to be a common cause of people getting into severe debt, they live high for 2 weeks but pay for it over the next months or sometimes years.

I think there is a lot of snobbery about holidays and people like to identify with different locations and lets face it Blackpool is not seen as very exotic and perhaps a bit seedy overall. There are going to be people that will always knock Blackpool even if they haven't visited it.

BonzoBanana You are right about the snobbery aspect B, as you say give me Blackpool over Venice any time, i have been there and besides being extortionate on prices, a cup of coffee can cost you more than £20 at St Marks Square , the residents dont like the tourists despite all the revenue they bring in , there is even a tourist tax now , so even more expensive

telmel If I paid £20 for a coffee I would have a bout of severe depression plus anger that doesn't sound like a holiday to me that sounds very stressful. Venice looks lovely but it is on borrowed time. It's basically a town built on a swamp and has an open sewer system. Rising sea levels probably within the next 100 years will destroy it or at least make it uninhabitable. People will probably keep living there for as long as possible but maybe by 2100 there will only be a 10th of the current population there and not much for tourists to see.

BonzoBanana I havent been there for a while B but i believe there is a strong smell of sewerage now , it just doesn't appeal anymore

telmel A quick google shows Venice sea levels have risen 32cm since 1872 but of course the sea level rise is getting faster and faster so maybe in the past the sewage system worked better but now it can't work the same way. I think the smell varies mainly with temperature though. It's a lot worse in peak summer. Maybe its like Dubai where people going there outside of peak summer have a much better experience than those going in peak summer where the temperatures are extremely uncomfortable for Europeans.

My brother lived in Blackpool for a couple years so we used to visit often. The place is a dive tbh. Needs investment like every other seaside resort in the UK tho tbf

I suppose you can find the negative anywhere if you look . Personally I live a long way from Blackpool down South, but enjoy the occasional family trip to Blackpool especially when the illuminations are on. Always have a good time so much to see and do in Blackpool, but I suppose I can see why it's voted an unhealthy place as, there is a lot of cheap food and drink served there particularly along the front .

I have this vague memory of something being on the beach in Blackpool. I think it might have been a swimming pool like structure that filled up with seawater. Was there a swimming pool on the beach or have I got confused?

I’ve never been there but my aunt visited and wasn’t impressed with it. I’ve just been to Great Yarmouth which is English seaside town. Some nice places but some rundown places too like a lot of places on the coast. I live in Worthing between Littlehampton and Brighton and same goes for them. There are a few nice bits though. Unfortunately there are a lot of people in parks hanging around in groups smelling of cannabis which spoils it.

JLouM As i was saying before J, its not the place spoiling it but the people unfortunately

If some multi billionaire from the USA came over and invested there they could have a fantastic theme park by the sea, just an idea 🤔

I think it all depends on what part of Blackpool you go to. When I went I thought it was a bit dead but that’s because I went in February and nothing was really open I’ve heard good things during the summer though.
