Bring Back Toys in Cereal!

Other

Who else thinks we should start a petition to bring back toys in cereal? I remember getting those colour changing spoons and bike reflectors.

Nice idea but got health and safety rules written all over it.Never a thing when I was growing up but they'd be terrified now of insurance claims from children swallowing things I'm sure

MelissaLee1 They were always wrapped in plastic I think? Be pretty hard to accidentally eat a plastic colour changing spoon like we had in cereal.

SamGoodship I like the idea of a colour changing spoon. Wonder If you can buy them. I do remember prizes in the cereal, I remember being very excited about it as a kids

Omg I loved getting a toy in my cereal or collecting the tokens to get a rice crispy bowl that had the built in straw so you can drink the milk when you were done 😋

But now plastic is frowned upon & health & safety officers would have heart attacks to put a toy in the box now a day's yet we never had a problem choking on the toy as it was too exciting waiting to see if it fell into your bowl 😂, we weren't allowed to tip the box out to get it we had to wait till it fell out pouring a bowl of cereal & it was never at the top. Some times I'd ask for cereal for my tea 🤣

From a environmental perspective it would need to be something that is of use like bike reflectors not just stuff that will go in the bin

As a kid I remember cereals used to also come with vouchers printed on the box itself and if you cut them out and send them off you would get a toy or something although often you had to pay the postage on top or include the stamps in the letter you sent. Pretty much as soon as the cereal arrived a square hole would appear in the box because I'd cut out the collectable voucher.

I remember I collected loads of Spokey Dokeys for my bike. My brother didn’t want them so I go the lot. You can still buy them now.

Don't think it's a good idea, we live in a digital age now , kids would only be interested in a plastic toy for 5 minutes and then throw it one side . I think like many things they were of their time.

Mango4 My daughter loves little toys like that. And from the ones I remember, some were a practical thing like the spoons, bike reflectors, cds etc.

Highlight of the day as a kid was opening cereals to get to the toy, they don't do them today because of choking hazards, snowflake Britain

Not worth bringing this back. You would try and be the first to open the packet only to be disappointed with the tat.

I use to love them as a 80s kid but I think time has moved on and they wouldn’t be appreciated nowadays

I do also find it weird that they just suddenly stopped putting them in cereal boxes. Such a shame really

I did love the toys in the cereal. Used to pick what cereal to buy at the shop based on the toy and then get it out as soon as i got home.

I just don’t think kids these days are really bothered about that sort of thing.
