Candle Problems

Other

I've noticed my candles don't burn evenly 😟 the middle bit burns but the edges remain there with each use. This happens with almost all my candles which are either glass jars or small metal tins. Is this normal? It doesn't seem like it should burn this way 🤔

I've had that problem, even with more expensive candles. It's better if you buy 3 wick candles

beccatavender thanks I've been gently tilting the burned candle to the sides so the wax pool can reach all places and voila! It's been fixed

The first time you burn a candle allow it to burn untill the wax has burnt to edges otherwise it just burns a tunnel through the middle of the wax

Glitterandgold Thanks for this tip, I will definitely try this next time as I have always had the same trouble of it burning down the middle only

There’s also metal covers(with big holes) that I think are meant to help the candle burn more evenly

If the candle has scent you could always remove the left over wax and use it in a wax melt burner so not to waste it.

Nadiaparveen mine has been since I was a child and we lived in a block of flats and there was a fire on the ground floor where we lived we all had to get out by the windows so I've never used them

Leannexxx omG that must have been a scary ordeal ..I'm glad you're safe and it's completely understandable why you would not want to posses one

Multiple wicks are definitely the way to go.

If you like the look of the candle jars, have a candle that has tunnelled and needs correcting, don't have long to burn it down properly or like the scents but don't like candles with flames then you can buy a candle lamp (see pic 1) it melts the wax and releases the scent, sometimes more than lighting it. Once you can no longer smell the melted layer of wax you can use a cotton bud to soak it up and throw it away.

I love a good scented candle, sadly many people don't know about candle care and then end up wasting or hating them.

- Most candles need their wicks trimmed before use and regularly (reduces the wick mushrooming, black soot and the wick drowning) you can buy wick trimmers, they are easier to get in the candle.

- You should burn a candle fully until it completely pools before blowing it out (often people only have an hour or so, when some jar candles will need at least 3 hours burning time to fully pool)

- If you have some of the popular big brands it is worth getting a candle illuma lid (pic 2) these help keep the wick stable and stops it burning only down one side. It should help it burn evenly.

- Temperatures: keeping a candle on the windowsill can make it super cold or hot, this can make it burn oddly, due to the temperature of the candle being different. It is best to keep them in the middle of a room, room temperature, no draughts and always use a coaster.

Remember to never leave a candle unattended.

Although I get the same results as you with the centre burning a hole, the left over wax doesn’t get thrown away. My husband adds the wax to his slow cooker full of wax and dips his bike chains in it. I’ve no idea why 😉
