What Did You Do as a Child Which Would Now Be Considered Dangerous ?

Ask a Question

I have 3 sons with them doing Explorers and Scouting and when doing some sort of exercise they will always come home with consent forms or a lot of emails saying do you give permission for us to do this .

I always remember doing scouting when I was a child and I would always know other than nights away which was a form to fill out by the parents that would be it and tonight I saw a post on facebook which said what did you do as a child which would now be considered dangerous ?

😂 this makes me giggle everything kids do or if we allow is dangerous all the Karen’s be out in force if we allowed what we got upto. I used to play wrestling in skips build huge bonfires. Climb in building sites one estate whice was getting knocked down we all would chill out in the half knocked down houses.

There seems to be a form for everything today

We use to walk over a bridge that had missing planks and one day somebody fell through and ended up in a coma.. I fell off the side of it in the early 80s and was in hospital for two weeks...

Go around without a trusted adult.

Kids still do that, but in this case they're told to call once they're in school or what have you.

A girl, she's like the daughter of a cousin of mine or whatever, and last year an old man grabbed her arm hard because she didn't say "hello" (it's a habit folks saying it where she lives), and hearing that p!ssed me right off. If I were with her (she spends time with us sometimes) I'd perhaps not knock him the f* out, but push him at the very least.

I detest violence and prefer peace, though in times of self defense you gotta do what you have to.

I grew up in the country. We used to play in the woods, in the stream, on the hay bails, riding horses without helmets. I think lots of things that kids do are dangerous and now I'm a mum I would never let my son ride a horse without a helmet on!

Play with realistic toy guns (bang! bang! you're dead etc.) nowadays it's almost unheard of for children to play with them.

I'm guessing if they did the SWAT squad would be sent for. Image

1 experience I aboslutely loved till my brother passed was Army in our local woods . It would be morning we would say mum can we have some sandwiches and a drink , she would know she wouldn't see us then till we was hungry again or till the lights came on in the street . It would be army with our improvised guns , booby traps which we would set to catch the other 1 or our mates . Oh and best bit was by the woods was the vicarage and Apples, cherries ,pears and in the summer strawberries .#Goodtimes.

stuartsmith544 I was born during the second world war so grew up soon after it. Real rifle bullets were plentiful but fortunately not the rifles that shot them. One boy who had one of the bullets wondered what would happen if he hit the part of the cartridge usually hit by the firing pin on the gun, so he brought it to the woodwork class and placed it, pointing downwards, in a vice then using a metal punch and hammer he tapped it:

I'll explain what happened for those who haven't guessed: There was an almighty bang, a bullet narrowly missed his foot and embedded itself (never to be seen again) in the composite floor. And there was a very shocked and stunned boy wondering why the equally shocked woodwork teacher was going berserk.

How most of us survived childhood still amazes me.😀

We used to go into the countryside pick nuts and berries light a fire to roast our nuts and have a feast of things growing all around us could you imagine if a child lit a fire today he would be locked away somewhere we were learnt how to light it safely of course

My brother and I had throwing stones fights against another two brothers from our street.. It was the 70s and we always ended up covered in bumps, bruises and black eyes. Then when we were finished we were all friends again. Crazy as it sounds. it;s a true story that would never happen nowadays.

Playing conkers, my brother used to spend hours covering them in layers of varnish to strengthen them up. I’m pretty sure conker fights are forbidden now.

I would be out all day with the horse and the dog and me and my friends would ride out and call in the local chip shop for dinner or if we were not riding the horses would be in the woods building camps and camp fires to bake potatoes on and jumping across the streams we only went back home when we had to be back

we used to live up on a Naval estate and often used to take a shortcut down to the main road - which was fine except it involved climbing a large fence, into an MOD Supply Depot, a short walk along an industrial railway, down through the woods, across a tidal creek then up a steep embankment and across the live main line railway. Only got caught once by Transport police who were a lot more 'on the job' than the MOD cops, although they did catch one of my mates once. Id be horrified if my son did the same now (no chance of that though)

I used to go out in the rain on my bicycle when I was young which may not seem that dangerous at first but the old bikes had almost no braking ability in the wet. The brakes were absolute rubbish. I had a Raleigh Chopper and Raleigh Arena when I was young two different types of bike and the brakes were hopeless on both. I later got a Raleigh Royal bike in the 80s and that was no better. Nowadays bikes seem to be able to stop within about 5 metres without issues thanks to modern dual pivot brakes or disc brakes.

As a kid I went to the dump to see what I could find and demolition sites and buildings that were going to be demolished. I remember going around an old farm that we knew was going to be demolished in a few days.

I have to say modern mountain biking is pretty dangerous.

All the things we used to do as a child and told it was dangerous is now what i tell my kids not to do! The main one is walking along a wall at my grandparents we used to do it just to get the reaction now my boys do it to me 🤦🏼‍♀️🤣
