Christmas Lights

Other

A discussion I had with some family and friends lately has been about Christmas lights, normally we decorate the front of our house with lights and blow up ornament things. However with the price of electricity going up and up most of us have said we don't think we can afford to this year.

My sister in law has mentioned they might have to buy some battery powered ones to light up the house.

Just wondering on other peoples views on this matter.

I think it depends what kind of lights you have.

Vintage ones cost more to run, as essentially it's a strand of mini light bulbs.

But the newer LED type cost next to nothing to run.

I never decorate the outside of the house and I don't have lights on our tree indoors. I know the LED ones aren't that expensive to run but it's just a waste of electricity in my opinion and an added expense.

Bet you can get pretty decent solar powered ones which would do the job.

Whilst I do like the look of external lights, I have always been too "tight" to pay for electricity for lights I can't even see as I am indoors, but saying that I do like the thought of Christmas LED Projector Lights, but will need to look into the running costs and only have them on for a limited time

Indoors I already have a number of Christmas decor which is battery operated. Plus in the winter I do like candle light, as it's cosy.

beccatavender I don't even turn on the battery operated ones as I would need to buy more batteries! All my Christmas decorations are 2nd hand from my mum, I was too stingy to even buy the decorations, never mind pay for the electric/batteries to run them.

I hadn’t thought that far ahead but I will definitely be cutting down. I may decorate outside with more of day time display.

We had battery ones one year and they didn't last long. I might only switch mine on Christmas day

I absolutely love decorating the house for Christmas so much so my decorations usually get put up 1st November. This year I've been using this group on Facebook for deals on solar lights. I have a few about 6 sets up to now. I know we get less sun in winter but still will be saving on the electric bills. X

There are certain houses I wouldn’t miss seeing their Christmas decorations and flashing lights. They’re not in our immediate road but you can’t miss them driving to the supermarket.

Hubby and I were just talking about this the other day...thinking it'll be a lot dimmer this Christmas as many will go back to tradition non light up decorations
