Are Cinemas Becoming Obsolete in the Age of Streaming?

Oh and they found mouse droppings in the local cinemas popcorn area so that may have something to do with it aswell

Went about 18 months ago. Not likely to go anytime soon. Its expensive. Sadly when I have been it's empty. People can't afford the price

Haven’t been in years. Don’t enjoy it now. Too loud, too expensive and dirty premises. Much rather watch at home.

I don’t think it’s obsolete, when it’s a big blockbuster you want to see it in the cinema and most people can’t replicate that at home.

It is pretty pricey though, for families can end up costing them £50+ which isn’t really good value for money when the film lasts probably less than 1 and 1/2 hours.

We used to go, but not anymore. we did ask our youngest son if he wanted to go, he said no is rubbish

I haven't been to the cinema in about 6 years. I never went regularly anyway. Husband went with his friends last year and said it was busy. My parents go regularly but they go to the senior citizen screening which is £3 each.

Last time I went to the cinema I was in Australia last year. My daughter, who was with us, wanted to a film a day before her brother could in England. The cinema was pretty empty but I prefer it that way.

I don't go half often enough but I don't think they are obsolete.Not nearly the same as they used to be when I went to saturday morning pictures as child.

We don't go anymore, too expensive, we just watch new movies on our firestick

I only go now because we get two free tickets with sky cinema I wouldn't go if I had to pay sorry it's over priced now

Haven't been since well before Covid and don't know if seats are being filled these days but with so much choice on our TV screens why bother. A ticket price for two can pay for a subscription service for at least a month.

We still go to the cinema, it’s a treat out for us. I do think they overcharge these days but that could be due to my age, everything is expensive.

I haven't been In years and I mean years. They are too expensive nowadays. The time you pay for your drinks, your ticket and pay to park your car. You could of bought the film. You can get whatever Is out online these days so why bother. I am talking new releases too and they are free.

No... The success of the Barbenheimer 'cultural phenomenon' last year. Along with, Avatar: The Way of Water, The Super Mario Bros. Movie and Top Gun: Maverick all making over a billion dollars each during their cinema release post COVID lock downs. Plus, Dune 2 taking more than $182 million over the weekend. This indicates audiences will go to the cinema in very large numbers if Hollywood releases films that people want to watch.

Many cinemas now offer cheaper tickets on certain days or at off-peak times. There are good value monthly/yearly memberships that let you watch as many films as you want. Yes, popcorn, drinks, etc are expensive in cinemas, but there is no requirement to purchase.

We only go because we get free tickets via Vitality heath insurance each month. It’s too expensive to go otherwise and other people are annoying in the cinema. My fiancé always ends up sitting next to the parent who’s constantly checking their phone (we only get to watch kids films with our daughter).

An old cinema that was around when I was a kid just re opened again. It's serving food etc, all refurbished in the old Debenhams place.

We can't justify watching movies with the prices.

Film / Actor budgets have gone through the roof.... It's the working class that have to pay to fund it just like everything else I rarely go these days but mostly because new films are pretty poor these days. Oh boy I am getting old lol

I think they are becoming obsolete - too expensive for starters. Happier watching new films in the comfort of my sofa with low cost supermarket snacks!

Not come across anything I think is worthy of watching in the cinema. Too many mediocre movies I’ll happily watch online instead

I am and always will be a cinema goer. I don't think you can replicate the experience at home for certain movies (like science fiction), but it's also so much more than just watching a movie. My husband and I don't go out too much because of the kids, and for us going to the cinema is a proper date. When my daughter turned 17 last month, what she wanted to do for her birthday was go to the cinema to watch the new Mean Girls, and that was the loveliest mother-daughter bonding time. And don't even get me started on my little boy's excitement when I take him to watch Sonic or the Mario movie... The only thing I would say against it is that it's an absolute rip off. Because 2 of us are disabled, we get 2 free carer tickets; if it wasn't for that, I don't think we would be able to go much. Some cinemas have schemes that make tickets cheaper, like on a certain day of the week, or screenings for children, but we need much more of that.
