Clap for Heroes
In the News
Clap for Carers looks set to return this Thursday at 8pm, under a new name.
Annemarie Plas, who came up with the weekly ritual that ran for 10 weeks during the first lockdown, tweeted that the tradition would be returning as Clap for Heroes.
She said: “We are bringing back the 8pm applause, in our 3rd lockdown.
Will you be partaking in this?
Although I like the fact that they've changed it from carers to heroes to include more people, I'm not sure I'm supportive of this. The last one went downhill as people kept gathering in groups to clap, completely ignoring social distancing guidelines.
I will as during the 1st lockdown that's the only time we saw anyone, we just clapped on our doorstep and it did give a sense of solidarity
No chance am I doing it my OH comes under this category and he said he would be embarrassed because this is there job they paid to do it plus like many others stuck at home don’t won’t to be
It's ridiculous it just makes all the dogs bark and scares the cats. Just unnecessary noise that makes no difference!
I didn't bother the first time round as I didn't feel that it would make a difference to what was going on. I donated money to the NHS charity instead to show my support as I felt that would make a difference. No one on our street did it after the 2nd week.
I feel embarrassed to do it as no one else in our ends participates and I'd probably be end up secretly recorded
I did it last lockdown with my kids. All our neighbours surrounding done it too and we all waved to each other.
It didn’t make any difference ? There are Lots of key workers all around us no matter their role and it showed a unity of appreciation to them in my opinion. Just the same if someone wanted to stand at a cenotaph every November...
Wouldn’t critique someone who did or didn’t either.
No. Seeing videos of people clapping makes me cringe.
I wouldn't want to be caught in such a cult-like "tradition."
I could hear the cars beeping their horns up on the main road close to were we live to join in the clapping. One driver that busy looking around to join in..ended up smashing his car in a lamppost
Yes I would love to take part again in the clapping but maybe it should be delayed now the virus is more contagious. I hope Annemarie Plas reads our comments.
No for a couple of reasons.
I have no neighbours etc so no point.
Also not being heartless but is it not their job ? I personally think it’s a bit pointless x
Did anyone clap or hear anything? I didn’t hear anything and I actually forgot what time it was
A polite minutes clapping round our way , no pots and pans etc. Just to show appreciation quietly .
I forgot it was happening until I saw an online article after the event. I didn't hear any clapping from my neighbours.
I forgot it was happening too. But did see the news later this evening about Annemarie Plas being attacked on social media so she's had to distance herself from it. How unfair just for trying to do something positive
I won’t be doing it. I have a few family members that are nhs workers, my aunt had a thing on her Facebook a couple days ago saying although its a nice gesture, she’d rather people show respect and appreciation to nhs and key workers by sticking to the restrictions
Yeah its on the radio this morning about how quiet it was and staying indoors, wearing a mask and pay rise to NHS is better way to support than standing at the door clapping.
My neighbours across the road do it with their kids.
But what's the point in clapping for 'heroes' when they refuse to wear face masks at any time? People like them are part of the problem and will probably spread the virus causing more problems for the 'heroes'.
Im wont be doing it, just simply because i dont think clapping is showing our appreciation. The kids made the rainbows for our windows (which are still up) i dont think we need to stand outside to clap. I have 2 members of family who work at 111 and have been spoken to like dirt sometimes and are absolutley over run with calls, I have 1 member of family who works for the police and numerous friends who are nurses and they've all said they would prefer it if people did their bit and respected the rules than clapping.
