How to Cool a Cat in a Heatwave
Ask a Question
I have 2 kittens and they have very clearly been getting frustrated in the heat. However they hate the fan so im usually stuck blowing on them which is exhausting.
You could try using a Cooling Mat. They are often marketed more towards dogs, but also work for cats. The mats use a gel that is activated by the pressure applied from a pet sitting on top.
ashiningstars28 I used a cooling pad for hot flushes and it was great so I'd take a look at the pet ones but not sure how you persuade a cat to use one....except that if its looking for a cool place then it should be happy ....I'm a dog person really.
Just make sure they are in a well ventilated area with plenty of shade, preferably with a gentle breeze blowing either naturally or from a fan at a distance , also make certain they have access to fresh cool drinking water throughout the day and they should be fine , as others have said a cold towel or cooling mat may also help, but let the kittens chose for themselves whether of not they wish to stay on these .
Lynibis and ashiningstars28 That sounds like a decent low cost testable option! I'd definitely give it a go.
