The Cost of Funerals
Ask a Question
Have you ever struggled to pay for a funeral?
The average cost of a basic one has risen to over £4,000 this year.
It's astronomical these days, There should be a new law stating that a basic funeral has a low set price for people who are not top earners. It's bad enough your having to do a funeral let alone be in debt too.
I don’t want a funeral, I’ve never traveled in a funeral car always insisting to drive myself. I feel I was ripped off a few years when my husband and I agreed to be executors. We were told everything had been paid for then 2 days before the cremation we had a call saying there was another £500 to pay!
It is crazy, even the funeral directors you visit try and add so many items to your already growing list of things needed, organising a wake for you ££, party platters ££, sound systems ££.. They do try and push extra costs on you when your in a pretty vulnerable emotional state, you need someone strong with you to be there when you visit a directors to say "no thanks" or else you'd be paying through the roof.
The biggest shock I got.. And I didn't even know this.. You have to pay the vicar and his car/driver.
I thought the church was free lol.
I've had to arrange 2 funerals but there was enough money aside to pay for them, it is a big expense at a time when your grieving and can be vunerable too.
I haven’t paid for a funeral but my mum has signed up with pure cremation and paid for hers in advance. I was not sure when she first suggested it but it does save a lot of money and it’s her wishes.
Well my dad had a life insurance policy in place last year he's taken another one out as he got a letter saying the one he's got will not cover his funeral
