Is Cyber Bullying a Real Issue?

Ask a Question

I wouldn't say that it is. Cyber bullying can include trolling (i.e. try to p*ss off someone just for fun), harass, doxxing (reveal sensitive info = full name, address, etc), fan-hate (fans of others or even hers end up detesting her for whatever reason) and so on.

But in general, the type of cyber bullying that most get is either criticism, trolling or senseless hate all of which can be avoided or have those people's accounts muted/blocked (Twitter, for e.g.) if you don't want to see them anymore.

Recently a Korean female singer of 25 years old did commit suicide precisely because of this but she allowed it to get to her and eat her up rather than be able to control it. I've been part of and read a lot of ridiculous discussions around the web which could be labeled as "cyber bullying" (I would say it's just junk, lol) but this sort of stuff you need to remind yourself to separate internet nonsense from real life so that the two don't blend together.

That's all. The internet has already been censored enough as it is and trying to ban "cyber bullying" would just make things even worse.

What do you think of this?

Very controversial opinion (I’m seeing a lot of those from you 🤣) but I do understand your point - I think from the generation that didn’t grow up with the internet and social media, they will never understand.. I am on the cusp on the generation switch (we got first got internet when I was maybe 11 but no social media until years later) so I see both sides.. for the new generation who literally live on the internet and social media, I can definitely see how cyber bullying can consume their life and I think you’ll find there have been hundreds of suicides linked to cyber bullying now.. I‘d say the cyber bullying is probably a lot bigger a problem now than physical bullying in schools.

I wish someone had control of this horrendous act, the people who post such comments should not remain nameless. If they didn’t have the cloak to stay nameless I doubt they would continue with their hateful remarks.

It's an issue if you're on the receiving end of constant vitriol and threats. The main problem is most trolls hide behind anonymous accounts so they feel emboldened.

Bullying in any shape or form is a real issue.

No one likes to be bullied, nor should they be.

It's easy to say this as an adult but things are very different for teenagers, social media is a big part of their lives. I think the providers of these platforms (that are making money out of it) have a moral responsibility to take control of these situations.

I recently (it was earlier today to be specific) had an issue with a seller who was passive-aggressive so due to his disrespectful behavior, I got my money back and blocked him. I could have called him names as he did to me but I prefer to avoid that.

And yes, pre-adults have a different reaction to it as they're still growing and getting used to it all, after all we learn with experience and through trial and errors. This is also why they [kids and teens] should not be allowed to make drastic changes to their bodies (like a boy become a girl and then want to change back to his original form).

Absolutely it's s real issue. Cyber bullying is causing so much damage and it is a serious form of bullying and one that should be treated as such in a court of law. I can't stand it!

You can block, filter and bypass the internet or a website so it's entirely avoidable.

However, if it's the case of a stalker or doxxing then the cops need to get involved. That's no joke.
