Dark Age Self Surgery
Other
Just had shock of my life as my oldest son has just extracted his own tooth.
Obviously he was in agony and phoned a dentist who told him what to do! He sent a picture of the offending tooth and he said he actually cried with the pain and was shaking for ages after. I so hope we don't have to go too far down this route of self help.
Seems to be, but we have all warned him to be careful of infection and look up dry socket on google. He is currently on antibiotics for a chest infection but he thinks he and his 17 years old son have both had Covid-19, if they have they are among the lucky mild symptoms group.
Lynibis If he's got a chest infection or Covid-19 tooth extraction would be a piece of quiche, sorry
On no,hope he is ok.Toothache is horrendous,my 9 year old had a tooth abcess a little over a week ago&he got antibiots, never really healed properly,I had to treat it with a paste of salt/baking soda&peppermint oil,a day later it's gone.
Was worried as dentist is shut for now,all good now though
Gargling with salt will help the healing x
Thanks nina090976. I have had about 5 abscesses in my time and yes they are dreadfully painful. Like you, I invariably turn to good old remedies. I probably should have mentioned my son is 45 but pain is pain no matter the age. I am so glad you were able to help your 9 year old as it is distressing to see kids in pain.
Lynibis He shouldn't rinse mouth or gargle for at least 24 hours, then rinse very gently with tepid slightly salted water, if by any chance he's having trouble with bleeding, biting on a used tea bag should help, the tea bag is of course sterile and the tannin helps blood clotting (having astringent qualities). Tea bags can be put on any cut that is bleeding too heavily. I'm not too sure if it has to be a used tea bag - but a used one worked for me.
Was it a back or front tooth? And how much is the tooth fairy giving him?
It's always better to pull your own teeth - those robbing dentists keep them and sell them to the tooth fairy themselves... that's why they're rich.
Really sorry to hear this. The salt mouth wash as earlier mentioned is the best thing he can do.
angemski I've helped dentists in the past, I told one that the painting in his waiting room could be quite valuable.
Good grief! My left wisdom tooth keep aching and I haven't been to the dentist as I moved house once to my parents, then again here and I was about to phone them to make an appointment and now there's no dentist really, so I'm waiting. No way I'm pulling my teeth out.
I'll help if you want. . . you can scream to control the pain should you wish to, about half a bottle of whisky or rum before we start should help. I'd advise you have some too .
davidstockport very funny but that might cause you to pull the wrong tooth............3 teeth later lol.
Lynibis Well if I was doing it professionally (for money) I could always say "It's four for the price of one day. . . Gummy!" People love special offers. I do have qualifications . . . well not actually qualifications but a book entitled "DIY brain surgery and other home skills" I've read the section on brain surgery several times, and pulling teeth must be much easier than brain surgery.
Hi ShellyAnn you could try Orajel extra to help numb the pain until you can organise a dental appointment. Hope the pain will settle down
Dani1 I have a high pain threshold as I'm in pain every day due to fibromyaglia so apart from the odd time at time when it hurts a bit too much, I don't even need pain killers or gel. I've been living in constant pain since I was about 26 years old It's just another pain to add to the collection.
davidstockport Vodka for me. I drink vodka exclusively. I am beginning to think 3 years ago when a dentist wanted to refer me to the hospital to have them out before they caused any pain I should of said yes....
I must admit I have always admired both my sons but really shot through roof now. I couldn't do it either.
Lynibis Who knows it could lead to a career change he could become a dentist, I had a major career change in my forties. It's never too late,
Christ almighty! Your son has some ️s Lynibis. There is no chance in hell I could pull my tooth, just no! It gives me anxiety just thinking about it. What a man!
I thought he was joking at first and we were all a bit , like, whhhaaat? Telling him off etc but when he said the dentist talked him through what to do and he sent pic of the tooth well.......
His dad was a bit of an action man as he used to be a ship's diver, then on rigs up North sea and in nigeria, oil industry. He lived in Oz as a kid (we met on boat home to Blighty) and had been snake bit a couple of times and used to go kangaroo hunting with his dad. Not like a lot of snowflakes today. I remember son had to have stitches when he was 5 and his dad waved a fiver at him and said it was his if he didn't cry. He didn't. All sounds a bit brutal now but it was 40 years ago. His dad still lives in Oz none of us have seen him since about 86.
Lynibis He certainly sounds like hes no shrinking violet. He must have been in some god awful pain to have been able to do that tho! I sincerely hope hes feeling better today.
I read this topic last night shortly before I fell asleep, I had a couple of dreams involving teeth so this must have played on my mind.
Glitterandgold lol, that happens to me too. I texted and he said all good, woke up with no pain so he is feeling happy
