DIY Christmas Gifts

Money Saving

Does anyone do any DIY Christmas gifts? I usually bake lots of Christmas biscuits and put them in jars that I’ve saved and washed from sauces etc, I put a square of paper on top and wrap some jute string around then to make them look a bit decorated. I give them to family and friends then and find they are always well received. Obviously takes a bit of time to make but it’s cost effective, ingredients cost a couple of pound but usually got most if not all ingredients in the cupboards anyway.

Especially now I’m thinking of doing more things like this to save a bit of money.

I think baking gifts is a lovely idea, I've baked Christmas biscuits for people in the past. It's a good idea to practice ahead of time though if it's something new. One year I tried making fudge for gifts and it was a disaster 😆 but a lesson learned!

galcal I was thinking of trying to make fudge but not made it before so think I’d definitely have to do a trial run first!😂

I make decorated cupcakes for our neighbours and they seem to love them. I also make my mum a Christmas cake as part of her present

My mother in law bakes for people at Christmas. I don't as I just don't have the time to do these things in the run up to Christmas. But I think it's a great idea

MrsCraig that’s the only thing is the time. I usually try to set myself an evening a few days before to do some baking but it can be difficult to find time to do things just before Christmas

I love making things for my loved ones but then I get second thoughts before I gift them, and worry they won't like what I've made, does anyone else get this?

Bexy yeah I can relate to this, although I usually make things for family and they are always very grateful so I can push these thoughts away. But I’d feel like that if I made something for anyone else I think.

Before having kids, I use to make candles as gifts for friends and family, they were always well received.

Midnightflower I’ve looked at making candles before, I’d like to give it a try. I was gifted a homemade candle once 🙂

I have baked things and given them as gifts in the past, but with the cost of butter so high it’s not as cost effective as before.

This is a really easy fudge recipe I use

Last year I made mini hampers for my brother in law and 2 adult children.

I made mince pies, mini Christmas cakes, cheese straws, chilli jam, bacon jam, mixed berry jam and grapefruit marmalade and Turkish delight vodka. They loved them so much and have asked me already if I’m doing again this year!
