Does Craig Revel Horwood Have to Be so Unkind and Critical?

Other

I am a recent convert to Strictly having only ever seen bits and pieces of it before. But one thing that continues to rankle is Horwood's criticisms, he doesn't even try to criticise in a kind manner.

I recently had to review a show he was in (Annie, the Musical) playing Miss Hannigan. I always try to be kind, tactful and diplomatic even when i am not keen on performances. I wish I had been a bit more direct now!

What do you think of the show and judges, other than that i am quite enjoying it.

He is blunt but i like him. He is lovely. He has the attitude of if I'm going to be a critici I'm foing it properly not be nice just because it's a entertainment show

Jerseydrew I do get that but you can critique in a kind manner. Too harsh and it can shatter confidence and even put people off pursuing their dreams. He doesn't even smile unless it's to his pet contestants. I bet he would be annoyed if I had dissed his performance.

I hardly watch the show but my elderly mother tells me all about it, so I don’t need to watch. I do believe the judges are acting up, otherwise it would be pretty boring.

eyeballkerry yes I am sure they do, but Anton du Beck is a dear and always kind. Maybe it's a case of good cop, bad cop.

Ultimately it's a TV show, everyone on the programme including the celebrities are being paid . Craig is portrayed as the bad guy and is just playing his part . He is probably a totally different person outside of the studio.

I actually really like him and I don't have any issues with how he critiques the performances. There are times when I think the others are too kind and score too highly. Craig is maintaining a persona, whilst it might seem mean his critique is meant to encourage them to do better.

MrsCraig yes I guess so, but I do sometimes cringe and wonder how I would feel if he did it to me lol. Maybe I am too sensitive🥲

It’s panto isn’t it and we all love a pantomime villain. Same with simon cowell for all these years he’s been unnecessarily harsh at times but most of the general public love it

jms19 Yes Simon Cowell was the harsh judge, but I notice he has calmed down a lot since his son Eric was born.

That’s why he’s being paid to be a judge, it’s his persona. I’ve stopped watching Strictly because I found too many things I was criticising.

Pjran I am a bit of an armchair critic too but couldn't do it to their face lol.

Lynibis I found myself moaning about the length of time the show focuses on training and visiting sites. I really didn’t want myself to find fault so just stopped watching.

Pjran yep, I would enjoy it loads more if they went from one to next after judging and short chat.

Not his fault if people can't handle the truth/criticism.

I like him being honest but it does seem like he focuses on the negatives more.
