Does Everyone Use a Dishwasher?

Ask a Question

I do the cooking and my husband does the washing up but he rarely uses the dishwasher. I would say it only goes on every two or three weeks now that we don’t have visitors.

Personally I don't do the washing up as I cook the food. My partner used to do dishes badly then swapped jobs with our daughter now she does them badly. Unfortunately I don't have time and energy to take them back

I am a dishwasher. Unless you have a large, busy household, regularly host parties or are a restaurant then you don't really need one. Expensive thing that takes up precious space in your kitchen.

Might not really need one but they are a real time and effort saver in a busy home. Wouldn't go back to not having one!

I got rid of my dishwasher so I could fit a tumble dryer in our tiny house. Constantly washing my clothes when working covid ward was becoming too much hassle with just a clothes horse! I thought I'd be lost without the dishwasher but me and partner share the washing up and daughter likes to dry up, so just proves it wasn't needed for us 🙂

Glad to know we aren’t the only ones! I must say it used to be wonderful at Christmas.

Dont have a dishwasher as no space in the kitchen but if i had a bigger kitchen i wouldn't bother, would rather do it myself

We used the dishwasher daily, only soaking pans if it's baked on, the only bug bear is that I wish my husband emptied it 🙂

We have a dishwasher but it doesn’t go on every day. My husband INSISTS on washing the saucepans the old fashioned way. Why oh why?

I live alone and yet I use mine every day, couldn't be without it. Not just for dishes, I also put my hob grids and covers in, jars so they go in recycling clean, all manner of things. I have had it for about 13 years and it's like lots of things, once you have one it is hard to do without.

I used to have a dishwasher but she left me for another guy!! only joking, I'm old school when it comes to dish washing, I like to use the sink and basin and wash and dry as I go.

I wash as I go along. It’s easier and I think quicker. It’s one of the easier chores to do

I have a dishwasher which I use twice a week after doing lots of cooking. The other 5 days I wash my dishes after use. Image

no I don't, and I don't see the need. Only necessary if you are washing in the industrial scale

Not got a dishwasher... God rest her soul, nan used to say if you rely on everything doing everything for you how do you keep your muscles etc in tiptop condition. She was still doing everything till 2016 when she passed at the age of 113!

It was one of the criteria when we moved house and this kitchen didn't have one, so we had a chat with the plumber and he installed a slimline machine for us by using the space of a cupboard. We use it daily. I am always surprised by the amount of washing up we can accumulate to go into it.

No. Haven't got one, and wouldn't want one. I hate the feel of plates when they've been in a dishwasher and they make glasses so cloudy. Can clean much better by hand.

The thing I don't like about them is (1) they take up space and I've only got a small kitchen as it is (2) you basically need twice as much crockery/cutlery because half of it is always sitting in there waiting to be washed and (3) a cycle takes so damned long ... as long as 2 or 3 hours ... and then you have to empty it ... far too much hassle for me!

TractorGirl327 I tend to agree although it is great to have when there’s a house full (and we have a big family). Our dishwasher also has a 30minute cycle which is good for most crockery etc.

MrsCraig oh no! That’s not good. Lucky you have a handy husband! My husband is not good at cooking or housework but he will always have a go at fixing things.

Grannyclock he has tried absolutely everything and nothing has worked. He suspects the motor has gone, so think we will need a new one.
