What Does Your Local Town Need to Ensure More People Come?

Ask a Question

In my local town of Tamworth in Staffordshire before last year if you asked what does your town need to help it thrive? A high majority will always say Primark.

That store has now arrived and at the same time the council has been awarded £21.65 million to improve the town and while some of the ideas are pretty good there are some glaring things missing?

Would you use some of the money in your local town to ensure free parking like many of the out of town shopping areas, would you use the money to improve the roads as like many towns our roads are utterly appalling ?

Would the money be best served to entice new business in with theincentive to lower business rates or would you in your town do something entirely different if so WHAT?

One thing I’d say my local town truly needs is more disabled parking spaces. Here you can park in the multi story car park which has 6 disabled spaces. The other 7+ car parks (I’m sure I’m missing a few since I haven’t used them all recently) have 1-2 each, and that’s it. If it’s busy and you need a disabled space you’re basically out of luck.

If I could also pick one store to add here, I’d pick Dunelm. We have clothes shops, health shops, beauty shops, sports shops, discounters, etc. But there’s nothing really great for homewares.

We could definitely do with some new businesses in my area. There are so many empty places from where things have closed down, many have been empty for years.

I would like jobs for maintenance workers to keep the town clean and tidy. No one likes living in a tip. (Well I suppose those who make it a tip don't mind). I believe everyone should keep their frontage tidy whether they own it or not but of course many are physically unable.

Potholes round here are dangerous.

That sort of money could build a hostel for the homeless and employ a housekesper, caretaker and assistant. Instead it would probably be spent on councillors beanos and stupid statues outside train stations.

My local town needs to be regenerated and have a lot more shops instead of empty buildings we could do with some clothes shops instead of take away shops bookies and Barbour shops and cafes

I’m sure more people would spend time shopping and eating in towns if car parks charged less.
