Does Social Media Make You Feel Bad?

Ask a Question

As some may know I am trying to lose weight and gain fitness but I constantly check social media and feel rubbish at my little efforts when I see physique perfect people training, well like a train! I know I shouldnt compare myself but I think its human nature. Anyone else do this? why?

Yes i think it is only natural to compare yourself to what you see on social media or tv etc. However I do think there is a lot more effort being made to accept all body shapes and sizes - especially tv programmes that focus on those kind of things.

Yes! I periodically deactivate my Facebook to give myself a break, I find it so toxic for the mind at times x

Yes, I have particular sites I like to go on for weightloss and most of the time it's really encouraging but sometimes I find myself feeling totally useless compared to everyone else. Then I do the same as ZillaFrith and deactivate FB for a couple of months.

This is why I don't have social media. For me it is toxic and never see the benefits of it, not even motivation. I also don't like posting pictures of myself to social media. You are going really well though, keep up the great work i'll pay off!

Apart from the chemical inbalance in my brain, things like social media probably have contributed to my depression. Best to take a break from it everyone shows their best bits whereas most of the time people are not doing the things they show on social media.

Social media doesn't make me feel bad about myself. I look at things like that and think that's great for them but it doesn't diminish my weight loss efforts as I'm doing great for me. I also don't compare my son to other people's children or my relationship to others etc. Besides I've always been told that what you see on social media isn't always accurate. That photo of them training could be because they pigged out in pizza the night before. People rarely put bad things on their social media so I take it with a pinch of salt.

I put a photo of my son up after his surgery to update everyone on how he was but I picked a photo where he didn't have all his drains in and he just looked like a baby napping so as not to upset anyone. The photo was not reflective of what he had been through but showed how far he had come.

I always try not to compare myself with others because I'm different to them. The fact you are making the effort to lose weight is amazing and you should be proud of every pound that you lose.

I dont do this at all and find it confusing that so many people let social media knock them down so much. Dont get me wrong i absolutely feel sorry for people that let social media effect them but i just dont understand it.... why not just come off of social media ?

I don't use it but can see that those who do, they say that there's always people complaining that this or that is "offensive".. smh. First world problems.

I really find Facebook upsetting. Why do people post wonderful events but in real life some are going through hell of course that’s never mentioned.
