Dog Walkers - Are People Friendlier Now?

Ask a Question

Are you finding people are being friendlier and saying hello more?

I have found this recently even one of my grumpy neighbours has started to say 'morning's

Let's hope people are nicer after all this.

I have only been out 3 times in nearly 3 weeks but have found I am more eager to call out a greeting with a smile!

I haven't been out since a week before lockdown started. I've only been into the garden, I've said hello and asked neighbours how they were when I saw them but we did that anyway.

People are saying hello to us a lot more, but I'm steering clear of others. I was safe distance talking to another dog walker that I regularly see walking her dog in our village and we both commented on the number of fair weather dog walkers there are now. What I want to know is when do they walk their poor dogs normally because half of them I have never seen before and I live in a very small village?

I dont know your area but we live about 5 mins from a cemetary & we usually do the short drive & walk the dog through there, because its quieter & more nature to enjoy, but the gates to get in have been closed in recent weeks so we have just been walking the dog around the block or going on the field at the back instead & iv seen a few people I recognize from our usual walk doing the same. So might explain the increase in walkers near you too perhaps.

I have noticed people more inclined to nod & say hello recently. I have had a more lengthy chat than usual with a particular guy a couple of times, at a safe distance, I dont mind tho because I know he lives alone with his little dog & might be feeling lonely.

I'm mostly walking along roads, which means crossing when coming near someone approaching, so no, not noticing people being friendlier - we're all avoiding each other.

People are always friendlier if you have a dog or pram. I was often stopped whilst walking pushing the pram, everyone loves a new baby. Iā€™m just as guilty now Iā€™m older, I remember starting to chat with a new mum in John Lewis coffee shop. My husband assumed I knew her.

I don't currently have a dog, but more broadly I don't think people are friendlier. With social distancing a lot of people are looking at strangers with suspicion. They are not wanting to engage or acknowledge others unless it's to criticize.

I have noticed that there is more of a community spirit going on. I see neighbours chatting more to each other from their front gardens, and people asking if you need anything. No one used to bother before all this

If I didn't have the dog with me people probably would be more friendly but my GSD doesn't like any one near me so social distance isn't a problem to me šŸ™„

I live on a little estate one road in same road out, nowadays people don't know who your neighbors are, but this Easter a couple of the neighbors wanted donations of chocolates for the kids on the estate as some of the mums couldn't get out to a shop, we have no shop here only a pub, we just put what we could in bags and hung them on the gate to be collected on the Friday at 2pm what we didn't realize we have 87 kids from newborn to 16 here, it has bought us all together
