Don't Wrap Your Christmas Leftovers in Foil Warning
In the News
I dont know about you but i tend to use tin foil to wrap almost all food especially leftovers
But scientists are warning people not to do this
They say if just a minute amount of air gets trapped inside the wrapping with the food it can cause it to go off fast
This could be leftover chicken or turkey which could be especially dangerous if it causes bacteria to breed
Apparently air tight containers are the safer bet
They also say to get the food in the fridge within two hours after it has cooled down
This could be because if the kitchen is central heated this can cause the bacteria to breed faster
That's if we can affiord to switch it on !!!

My daughter purchased the silicon covers for me a while back and these work really well and save me money as well.
Surely it's part of the after Christmas slump to find random unnamed foiled foods in the fridge when you are feeling peckish. Never known any problems before, if it ain't broke don't change it
Auntielettie Very true A, but i think we have to be more careful now as you cannot trust the manufacturers anymore, there are so many cases of food poisoning now and thats from the raw product before we wrap it in foil
I will probably carry on using it, but you just need to make sure it is well cooked if poultry and wrapped with the least air trapped inside that is possible
I work in catering and it’s perfectly ok to use and will keep the food safe for a few hours. Just be careful to check for holes or tears and yes as soon as it cools down enough stick it in the fridge as soon as possible. That will take care of the bacteria. It must be sufficiently cooled though as you can’t put warm food in fridge as that would create bacteria. Make sure food is properly cooked in the first place too. I wouldn’t use anything after 3 days as a rule.
telmel you are definitely changing my way of thinking first it was Baileys and now not using tin foil . Luckily enough we don't have many left overs in our house as the days of buying big joints are a thing of the past.
beccatavender To be honest B i was surprised myself after reading these articles , but if they can help make people aware of the pluses and the minuses then they are worth posting
