Do You Eat Jerkies?
Ask a Question
I’ve noticed that the supermarkets seem to have more varieties of jerkies these days - so aside from biltong, you can get the likes and of bacon jerkies as well as salmon jerkies
do you like them?
Lol I guess it was the kind of food our ancestors ate when they did not have facilities to keep the meat and fish fresh. But I don’t mind cured meat. I think it’s better than when jerked
Yes I love them, although some of the brands varies enormously so I can understand a few people being put off if they've tried a leathery looking tasteless strip of meat. I've bought BBQ, Hickory Smoked and some a little higher end from a specialised biltong site. I haven't tried the fish ones but I am part of a food dehydrator group and have seen instructions for fruit leathers and salmon crisps.
ah yes I recommend fish skin crisps - that’s actually quite tasty, and the oils of the skin is very good for you
No, my husband and sons absolutely love them but I can't get passed the smell when they open the packet to try them . I assume the beef ones must be quite strong tasting?
I think they taste quite nice, but the texture can be very tough, and also chewy. I suppose it’s a bit like some of the dog chews they have, which definitely is off putting
