Failing NHS
Other
Today a colleague saw a very elderly gentleman with a zimmer frame fall over backwards. An ambulance was called at 1.40pm. Concerned for his welfare she followed up and found that he was still lying on the pavement at 5.20pm.
I am finding this very hard to stomach as you would not expect the ambulance service to be overwhelmed at that time on a Thursday afternoon. If it had been late on a boozy Saturday or Friday night it might have been more understandable. Was there not one single paramedic car that could have gone to him? Suppose it had been midwinter, pouring with rain or 30° plus temperatures. I can't stop thinking about it.
Very sad. I hope he finally got the help he needed in the end.
And yes, our NHS is definitely sadly failing and is only going to get worse and worse overtime.
That's so sad and I can understand how you and the colleague would be deeply affected. It's not easy to wipe an image from your mind.
Gosh that’s an appalling time for the old chap to wait. The ambulance service is struggling to retain staff after abuse and some even suffer PSD. I’m still proud of our NHS.
I am afraid I no longer feel pride in what is, essentially, a third world service in a country which purports to be the 5th (?) richest economy on earth.
belleshowsdogsI'm just hoping he isn't still lying there (this incident was nine months ago).
Before lockdown, we were in a local pub and an old man fell down the steps outside.
It was absolutely peeing down, and I mean really peeing down.
He was on the floor for FOUR AND A HALF HOURS before an ambulance came.
It's a disgrace tbh.
The normal NHS sevice is shut down because of corona virus. It is shocking and it should never happen like this.

SamGoodship I am not quite sure why this topic was resurrected but it does illustrate how woeful the chat tool is.
With membership growing and more people chasing points the pages fill quickly and good posts are pushed back and replaced by many that are, quite honestly, pathetic.
I am not saying this was a good post but the ones that are get buried before many people even get to see them, let alone comment, and many chatters do not bother searching past the first page.
Also because of the points many do not bother reading all the comments on a post before replying, often repeating a previous comment or missing something that may interest them.
Finally, many folk do not give their topic a good title, they do not write their comment plainly nor do they correct bad spelling or grammar, therefore making the post hard to read/understand. I understand some people are not as literate as others but when predictive has changed a word totally, changing the meaning, surely it is not too wearisome to retype or edit so it makes sense.
Finally, finally, check the subject has not already been posted by doing a search or checking back at least 3 pages. I have seen some topics repeated on the same page!
Lynibis I agree, it doesn't take long to skim through chats and then read the ones that interest you and double check when the last post was before, if at all, replying with a suitable comment. I hope he was ok but how was anyone to know, even on the day never mind after 9 months.
Well we mustn't get political but tell me is any party better at governing than another? If one got it right and did everything correctly and perfectly they would stay in power forever. The reason we keep changing is that none of them do a good job!
As the country builds up more debts and has to service those debts obviously money for services like the NHS reduce. People do as they like and buy what they like creating a huge trading imbalance and then still complain and look to blame others when such services get worse. It's the nature of people, we are all to blame for the economic state of this country and it often seems those who export the most of their income seem to be the most critical of others. Somehow we expect politicians to be magicians that can solve the problems we create.
The government should never have borrowed to maintain the economy at high levels they should have just let the economy shrink as people exported the majority of their wages and not set a minimum wage. In that way the economy would correct itself to the right value based on our spending habits. Why should future generations pay our debt because we couldn't live within our means or shop intelligently.
