Father Insulates Home with Packing Cardboard to Try to Reduce His Heating Bills

With his energy bills over £1,000 a month this person has tried to reduce his heat loss by covering the inside of his prefab flat from floor to ceiling with packing cardboard he bought for £1 off e bay
It doesnt help that the heating is not working but even when it does it just leaks to the outside
I admire his resilience , but i am sure it is a potential fire hazard and would be not be covered by insurance
It would only take a spark from a cigarette or a faulty electrical device to ignite it
But this is what people are being driven to with the crisis
Not just a fire hazard, but also cause mold.
Just wear coats, socks, and blankets. Tough times ahead.
That’s absolutely dreadful to be in that situation. I sent the link to my husband to read but all he said was don’t believe anything the Daily Mail print!
Like many I have a lot of packing boxes up in the loft which I guess are a sort of insulation although my loft is also very thickly insulated as well which is why I can only put boxes up there as the insulation is super thick and I can't really put flooring up there for heavier items to rest on.
Musicians used to soundproof with egg boxes.Don't know if it actually works though.I have met people who put cardboard in their shoes to fix a leak.
How on earth does his energy bills costs over £1,000 a month? My gas and electricity bill are less than £5,000 per year (before autumn 2022). I have just read the article and his problem is the housing association not doing their job properly. He should ask for a transfer to a better house.
Sounds like a bit of a moaner to me, complaining about his windows (which are obviously double glazed) being eighteen years old and about his electric bill when he has a five bulb light fitting - all bulbs blazing away.
He's supposedly lined his walls and ceiling with cardboard - strange how he still has several rolls of the stuff left.
Plenty of elderly people do more to save energy, than this 51 year old moaner, most of whom would consider windows up to thirty years old as "Newish" - all I can say is God help him when winter comes.
Great price for the cardboard but it will cost him a fortune to Sort out, the Housing association will not give him a new property if this is what he does to them.
