Film Quotes That Have Touched, Intrigued or Amazed You.

Other

I have mentioned before that we are a film orientated family and over the years many film quotes have remained in the recesses of my brain, this one is said by Joe Goldberg in the series YOU. I can really relate to this.

If your IQ is over a certain number, and it is surprisingly low, you will always find the world to be unbearable.

This quote from the American version of the Office really hit me for six, I was going through a sticky patch at the time and remembering the fun I used to have -

"I wish there was a way to know you're in the good old days, before you've actually left them"

Yes that is very insightful. I hope it helped you at that time. I really admire writers that can put feelings into words so succinctly.

One of my other favourites is 'father of a murdered son, husband of a murdered wife, and I shall have my revenge, in this world or the next'

It isn't a motivational type quote but in the context of the film it really got me.

I wonder who can be first to come up with the name of the film and who said it.

Lynibis I just re read this after seeing your chat with tumblespots! It’s Gladiator! When Russell Crowe was a beautiful man!

gerrykelly25 Lol, no worries. I think many people missed the question as not everyone reads every comment.

Yes he has aged, he was 36/37 when that film was made in 2000. Now 57. For me Russell was made for that role and I was totally invested in his character. He has done lots of good films since then but to me that will always be his defining role.

I watch a lot of films, but am not good a remembering quotes 😊

Anyway, here’s one that is to the point:

’Life moves pretty fast. If you don’t stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.’

Ferris Bueller's Day Off. True for all of us.

I am very guilty of that.

Saw a clip of Silence of the Lambs on gogglebox the other night and it showed the famous ' I once had a census taker for dinner..............'

I had to go through IMDB for the name of the film as I just couldn't remember it but the line stayed with me. 😳

'Life is not the amount of breaths you take. It’s the moments that take your breath away.'

(film 'Hitch' )

Two quotes from Master Oogway in the first Kung Fu Panda film -

  • "Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, but today is a gift. That is why it is called the present."
  • "One often meets his destiny on the road he takes to avoid it."

The second one is deep and true. What is meant to be will be!

At first I misread and thought you were referring to an old tv series called Kung Foo which starred David Carradine. The master who trained him often came out with profound words of wisdom.

It's strange you should talk about this topic. For Mr T's birthday I made a game. I typed up quotes from films (mostly films that we watch regularly), printed them out and cut them to size & put them in an old jar with ribbons round it. His task over the next few weeks was to try and guess which films each quote came from - great fun.

Hello, Violet. Hey, you look good, that's some dress you got on there.

What this old thing. Why, I only wear it when I don’t care how I look!

You despise me don't you?

Well if I gave you any thought I probably would.

There's 106 miles to Chicago, we've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark out, and we're wearing sunglasses.

Lol it's even stranger you say that as I am going to start compiling a list of film quotes as a game for the family when we get together at Christmas!

No one seems to have come up with the answer to my first comment above with a quote from a famous film.

I am happy to turn this into a 'guess the quote' and people can give the answer next day if no one guesses.

I must confess that I don't know where your quotes from but the third one sounds suspiciously like Thelma and Louise even though I have never seen it!

That’s a lovely idea tumblespots!

The first quote is from It’s a Wonderful Life. We watch it most Christmases.

gerrykelly25 Mr T loved it, perhaps I should patent it, although it is more effective when it is tailored to the recipient.

Good morning

I have not heard of the quote you first mentioned - a game of guess the quote would be a great idea.

Mine are (in order)

It's a wonderful life

Casablanca

The Blues Brothers

I must admit I have not watched any of those films, although I have had wonderful life on in the background lol.

My one above was said by Russell Crowe as Maximus Decimus Meridius in the film Gladiator. A film I have watched at least 4 times!

Lynibis I think I can beat you on all of mine - 20 times minimum for the first and last and many more than I can remember for Casablanca. A good film is hard to beat.

By the way - I did five pages of mostly one liners and printed each page on a different colour paper to add to the fun.

“I always tell the girls never take it seriously. If you never take it seriously, you never get hurt. If you never get hurt, you always have fun. And if you ever get lonely, you can just go to the record store and visit your friends.”

I love this from Penny Lane in Almost Famous.

I love listening to music, and it always changes depending on my mood and feelings!

More a scene than a quote that stuck with me from Hotel Rwanda. ( About the genocide in the 90s) When the reporter is explaining the west will not intervene despite footage of violence shown on the news.

Hotel owner asks: "How can they not when they witness such things?

Reporter: "I think people will watch & think, "that's terrible.....and then go on eating their dinners".

I often still think of that scene when I watch the news.

Found the scene here.

It sounds terrible when written down so starkly. I think the reason people go on 'eating their dinner' is because they feel so awful but also impotent knowing they cannot do a thing to help without politicians getting involved. They would sooner turn away than acknowledge the horrors that go on because what little help they could give is like a grain of sand on the beach.

“Houston, we have a problem.” -Apollo 13, 1995

Not only is this a film quote but supposedly a true one. It just goes to show the ingenuity of man that they came back safely and this film always brings tears to my eyes.
