Finance Organisation Tips

Ask a Question

Hi all,

My new year's resolution is to get my finances in shape. Does anyone have any tips for keeping track of my finances or even a decent paper filing system anyone would recommend so I can get organised? Many thanks

Always keep a journal with your receipts in then tick them off once the credit card bill arrives. Use the journal as a running bank account and balance that once the statement comes in. Old book keeping/accounts will help you keep track of money in and out. It’s not for everyone but I’ve done this for years.

Pjran that's a really good way of doing it. It also makes you realise how much money you waste on silly things. My worst habit was the garage, I never bought petrol without chocolate and once u saw how much that was adding up to I was horrified.

I use Yolt. It’s a legit app where you connect it to your bank and it automatically categories everything you’re spending on: bills, eating out, groceries, subscriptions etc. (You can manually do stuff too).

Then I set budgets in the app e.g. £40 a week on groceries, and it gives me alerts when I reach those limits.
