MelissaLee1963 I was involved in health and safety many years ago M and i am very surprised there is no legislation on old fairy lights, ie safety checks for ones so many years old
The bulbs are not a problem, they just tend to blow, but the wiring can fray or the connections can come away from the bulbs and this is where a fire can start
I have even seen people going out for the evening leaving the christmas lights on, it might help to deter burglars but is a huge fire risk
I saw an article the other day saying there at least 160 fires a year in the UK connected with faulty christmas lights, and although not a high percentage, probably less than 0.01% , but one is too many
