First Day at New Job Advice

Ask a Question

I love to save! Why? Because I work HARD for my money.

Do you have any advice you wish someone told you on the first day of the job?

When I had my first job at 16, I wish someone just told me that It is okay to ask people to repeat themselves when you misunderstand them! So simple, but it took years for me to finally find the confidence to ask my colleagues "eh?".

What do you have to share?

Don’t feel your comments are valid just because you are new. If you have an opinion share it, you might surprise yourself 😊

From my own experience always being nervous about work and bosses in general I only can say being nice and try to be positive about things and smile

Develop a good level of communication with your colleagues and boss. Don’t be afraid to ask questions - the more you learn about the business you’re working for, the quicker you’ll adapt and become more productive.

Asking questions, being friendly and showing interest. Offering suggestions or opinions. Oh, and being on time of course.

I always think if you struggle with anything always ask for help. Most employers would rather you asked questions and get the correct answer than just guess and struggle.

Only speak when you are asked something, otherwise just shut up and listen/watch.

My advice is do your research on what/how management can treat/do to you. In my first job i was screwed over repeatedly and I thought it was ok, until I ended up in my second job and was told half of what my first job did and got away with absolutely shocking and couldve got worse and I couldve taken legal action against them.

When you get asked:

where do you see yourself in five years?...

Apparently,

“still using the toilet rolls I stockpiled during the Coronavirus outbreak” is not the right answer!
