Fish Finger Croissants Angers a French Journalist

''Mon Dieu !!!'' , croissants filled with fishfingers and cheese wasn't what the french journalist wanted to give a michelin star for

In fact he thought quite the opposite and called it a monstrosity

But the Cawa coffee chain where they are selling them say us brits love them

I would prefer eating fish fingers to snails and frogs legs any day, imagine them on a croissant 🤢

I don't really like croissants, they are ok but down my list of preferred food for sure. Occasionally I buy them when reduced and being bread they do get some big reductions. I'd prefer the fish fingers in a sandwich made of normal bread like Tiger bread, with mayonaise, lettuce, cucumber, maybe some finely cut tomato. The monstrosity for me is the croissants. I just have croissants with a little bit of butter and jam perhaps with a dash of double cream but for me its the butter, jam and cream that makes it, the same added to normal bread or toast is just as nice sometimes nicer, croissants are more crust and not much middle, its light crust admittedly. I buy them for the novelty because generally they are very poor value.

BonzoBanana The ones you buy in the supermarkets are industrialised as are most in hotels, but if from a bakery they can be delicious , but don't tell the french i said that

telmel I can't even get close to artisan bakeries without fainting from shock at the prices. I once saw a loaf of bread for £5 and as nice as it looked I've seen similar in supermarkets for a third of the price. I don't question they are better from a decent bakery but for the money they charge I could have far more enjoyable food.

I have had artisan normal bread and it was no better than normal mass produced bread for me. I do realise the bread you get at many supermarkets especially smaller ones like Aldi and Lidl are low grade parbaked bread full of yeast and addictives and junk food basically but some of the larger supermarkets have proper bakeries for bread no different to smaller bakeries and make the bread the same way and its really nice.

In such supermarkets its only really the larger loafs and more simple bread products they make themselves. The lower volume more niche bread products often come in parbaked just like the low grade bread from Lidl and Aldi and most convenience stores, Coop etc. Apart from pre-packed croissants probably most so called fresh croissants are low grade parbaked products from most stores. Even many small bakeries use parbaked as it saves on costs.

BonzoBanana There is nothing better and satisfying than a loaf of bread made yourself in a bread maker B , even the smell is heavenly

BonzoBanana I am speechless regarding Aldi, Lidl, or "proper" supermarkets using parbaked bread and pre-packed croissants. I had no idea it was not freshly baked produces. This has put me off buying pastries, cheap bread etc reduced at the end of the day.

Everyone has their own unique tastes and to call something a “monstrosity “ is a bit too much I think. I have seen ppl eating fish fingers sandwiches with a slice of cheese . It’s just an easy cheaper version of fish burger
