What Would You Do if You Found....
Ask a Question
What would you do if you found a ring worth £640,000?
A customer at the Ritz lost hers, and presumed it had been stolen until it turned up in a vacuum cleaner bag!

I would hand it in to the police station. Its not mine and someone will be missing it. It must be some ring if it's worth that much money.
MrsCraig If you found it in an establishment would you had it in there or only to the police?
If you didn't hand it in, you could get done for theft. There's no such thing as finders keepers.
I would expect a nice fat reward though.
I once picked up off the floor a huge diamond ring and handed it to the bar staff. I wish I’d taken it to management.
Never mind. You only did what you did on impulse and being a honest person. I was wondering if the pub had CCTV cameras?
If I found it actually in somewhere then yes I would hand it in, but if I found it on the street then I would sell it
Oooh I have in the past, l handed it into the police and it was returned to me after 6 months as no one claimed it... Its platinum with a very large blue diamond....
SamGoodship nope, no idea it's just sitting in a trinket box in my draw, l would probably catch the diamond on something and dislodged or miss shape the ring setting...
In the first instance, when you find something you don't know its worth unless you research it. Sometimes that makes you want to keep it especially if it's valuable. Depends on whether you are an honest person or not. Some might think if somebody can afford a ring so expensive, they are obviously wealthy and have it insured so won't loss out. I'm honest, so I would try to find the owner. I would be frightened to wear something so expensive.
I was walking down a busy windy high street a few years ago and a man's briefcase broke open and notes flew everywhere. I frantically stepped in and helped him recoup thousands. Not sure if he even said thank you .Maybe he was recovering from shock. I had less than £10 in my pocket that day so was a bit miffed that he just wandered off heedlessly into the future.
I would be trying it on for size and be admiring how an expensive ring would look. Then I would hand it in at the nearest police station. As my mother would say " honesty is the best policy" even if you poor just do the right thing.
Well if I found one I would keep it for a few years and sell it lol if they can afford a ring for that price they can afford to buy another one
A ring is usually an emotional item so the best thing is to seek the owner or someone who could do that. If it was worth that much it was probably quite large and I think I I would be wondering if it was real or not.
A was caring for a lady with Alzheimer's some years ago and took her out for a coffee. She asked me about my wedding ring and I took it off to show her. Obviously I didn't put it back on properly because later that day it was missing. I went back to the cafe and everywhere else I had been that day checking frantically. I was soo distraught and terrified to break word to my hubby. He was amazing though. He just told me to buy any other that I wanted. I had a nice replacement which was never the same. When he died a few years ago I kept his ring which is an identical match to my original one .It remains very special indeed.
I have found lost things are the years, wallets, keys, handbags and have always returned them. A wallet I found had cards and cash in it, I found the owner but no thank you or reward. Just recently found a selection of bank cards and store cards on a local pathway. Tracked down the owner, couldn’t thank me enough and even offered money, but I refused.
When I had my cafe, someone left behind a bag of new clothes and a wallet which had just under £700 pound in it took it to the police but no one claimed it so I got to keep the lot
I found a really nice slr camera that had been left on the bus once in Dartmouth. I remembered the couple that had been sitting there so I got off the next stop and went back to look for them, finding them and returned their camera. I wasn't expecting any rewards or anything but they were just grumpy and mumbled thanks and carried on. I really wish I hadnt bothered and just kept the camera which was a lot better than mine.
If it was at work I'd hand it in. Out of work depends on what it is and where I am. Jewelery I'd hand it over
