Fraudulent Buyers Online

Ask a Question

Has anyone had to deal with fraudulent buyers on the likes of eBay and other selling sites? I’m talking about the ones that claim an item hasn’t arrived and demand a refund.. I had one on eBay the other day, but when I gave him the tracking information which showed it had been delivered to his address, he stopped replying.. I think these people are just chancers, hoping you don’t have tracking info to prove it was posted.. unfortunately for me, I’ve got another one today but I’ve lost the receipt that proves I posted it so I have to accept that I’ve lost the money and the item 😔

What do you think of this?

If you sent it through the post office they might have a record of it that they can give you.

I've never had anyone say that an item hasn't arrived and ask for a refund, but I always take a photo of the receipt just in case.

I looked it up online but it says you have to have the tracking number, the post office can’t trace it using a name / address or anything ☹️ we’ve been selling a load of stuff to make room and money for baby stuff so there’s been loads of receipts.. it’s completely my fault for losing it coz now I can’t prove we sent it 😔

sarahgreen15 ahh that's a shame, it is so easy to lose those receipts too. Such a shame that you've lost the money, especially when you need it for baby items

Yes I've had that. It's much easier now for them to exist as sellers can't leave negative feedback on buyers. Ebay is a farce to be honest, a really awful company that shouldn't exist but they were first to market and if you want to sell specialist items you have to use them. It's free money from ebay to fund their drug habit etc. You send the item they get refunded and they get to sell the item. Always worth checking the positive feedback of buyers as often you get negative comments saying how bad the buyer is and you'll know to use a tracking service with signature etc or better still cancel the sale before sending. On youtube there are some real horror stories like a trader who sold a £200 car light assembly, the buyer left positive feedback but the buyer then got it installed by someone who broke it, fitting it and the buyer sent it back smashed and got a full refund from ebay. You couldn't make it up, such is ebay's criminally unfair processes. Ebay should be in court and prosecuted for fraud for refunding that money.

I’ve not had it personally but I know people and businesses who have, and it’s completely disheartening, as ebay and banks often sides with the buyer and not the seller. Aside from delivery issues, one friend sold a genuine designer purse to someone on eBay and they buyer claimed it was fake, so they got a free designer purse. Unfortunately there are people making a living being dishonest, and they know what they’re doing.

Fortunately I have not had that experience but I am always wary and when selling on ebay and I photograph the package before I post it and keep the receipts, because, as you say you are scuppered without it. If you are on the computer a lot scan it in so that you can access the information at a later date if required? I do feel for you and hope it wasn't a high priced item. Sadly there are always chancers out there, just try and not get caught out again. 💐 🐞

2nd Class signed for if the item is relatively new and worth a few bob. Then you can enter the number , keep the receipt and then relax. Keep them in a safe place ready, just in case.

I had one a few years back who claimed an eBay purchase had not arrived, and they wanted a refund.

Once I sent them a screen capture of the electric signature someone with the same last name had signed, they went silent.

I have had a few time wasters on eBay and it is disappointing when you put time and effort into maintaining a positive feedback. I have normally found eBay customer services to be helpful if you phone them they may be able to assist x
