Would You Go to a Pub if There Was a Robots behind the Bar Serving You?

Ask a Question

I haven't been to a pub in over 2 years, but when I go to the pub I like to interacting with the staff. They always make you feel welcome, I don't think I would feel the same about a robot !

What about you, would you welcome this ?

I would rather have a person serve me than a robot as I don’t think you would be able to have a conversation with a robot and then the humans would be out of a job as robots would take over

I've never visited a pub and that would just make me avoid it, anyway.

If they want to destroy pubs, that's the way to go.

Of course I would (if the beer were cheaper ?) . But don't tell the lovely Ellie and Sophie - our current barmaids 😃.

if its like self service in a supermarket it would probably be quicker dealing with the real staff. Having said that I do like wetherspoons app where you can order food and drink to be brought to the table but that takes ages to work through whereas someone behind the bar can take a full order really quickly.

Certain cruise ships have robots serving behind a bar. To be honest I don’t mind robot service because I’m not looking for chat with the bar staff as I would only visit a pub in company.

Other than ordering drinks I don't tend to converse with bar staff. But, I still don't believe this would be well received by customers in an average bar/pub setting. Plus, bars/pubs would still need staff to collect glasses, clean tables, deal with customers, etc.

No. It’s just another way to reduce staffing numbers. Why would you even go out if you weren’t interacting with others? You could stay in and drink at home

Yes, I'd be happy to be served by a robot but it would probably make the venue very 'clinical'. The upside would be that bar staff wouldn't have to endure the same old jokes and comments that the punters think they've never heard before, a bit like checkout staff, and the service would be quicker. The downside ......... the customers wildddddddd gt vrerrrry dronk anddddddddddd mkae floos of thmsleeeeves. 😳

No, I wouldn't. Firstly I would be part of an insidious move to help people to lose their jobs. Secondly the staff are part of the atmosphere and social aspect. When I did bar work I was not a young dolly bird, but a mature woman and so many customers seemed to like having an agony aunt character and I like to think I helped them with their problems.

It would really depend if it was a busy time wouldn't bother me. At quite times it's nice to talk a bit

Having said that when I used to go out drinking it cost £4 for a pint of Guinness and a pint of lager. So obviously that was a while ago

I am surprised, with covid still around, that they want us to go to pubs and touch another screen possibly picking up (covid) germs that other people have left behind for us!

I wouldn't like it at all, aren't pubs plastic enough already?

I go to wetherspoons fairly frequently but don't really go to any other pubs as I hate surprise pricing where suddenly you get ripped off. Always like to know prices before I buy anything.

I think I'd accept a simple machine where you selected your drink and it was served to you like a vending machine in principle however when I go to Wetherspoons the coffee machines are often playing up, they haven't emptied the coffee grounds or they have run out of milk etc. Such machines always need maintenance and refilling. Even one robot arm can be a bit of a disaster, probably end up punching customers or performing sex acts.

Here's a video of Wetherspoons in the nearby town to me of Trowbridge. I can't see how you could install a high price technology in such a pub environment.
