Holiday/travel Tips

Other

When travelling over the years i’ve picked up a few tricks that have helped me out a lot. Would be good to know of any that have helped other people out.

When in countries that don’t have set prices for items I try to wait until someone local buys the item so that I can then just get the same money ready. It’s worked pretty well for me.

When staying in hostels I always pick the room with the lowest number of beds so that there’s less chance of it being really noisy and messy.

Many people seem to prefer smaller hotels for a more personal touch.

Personally I find larger hotels tend to offer a far better breakfast buffet.

There is always the danger though that your room is near the lifts, so you hear the coming and going of patrons at all times of the day and night.

If you’re looking to book a holiday, check prices in a private browser. If you’ve searched the same trip a few times the websites can often up the price but if you check in a private browser it shouldn’t do this. Also if you’re looking at a hotel/hostel/apartment on booking.com/hotels.com etc, check the price direct also on the hotel/hostel/apartment website as sometimes may be cheaper (not always, but worth a quick search!)

Always use cash back sites when booking, even if it’s 1% cash back on a holiday that’ll likely be a few pounds at least!

lornaae yeah that’s one I’ve only started to do recently, like you say it’s not going to save you £100s but i got about £40 back from my last holiday which is at least a few cocktails

lornaae As you say, it may not amount to much, but it should pay for a drink or two at the hotel bar.

My last break I got the following cashback - lastminute.com/ £16, Airport Parking £12, Travel Insurance £2 - that's all money in my pocket rather than the aforementioned companies.
